I just updated my loglines in my profile but kept them private until I know what they're used for. I'm somewhat nervous to allow anyone to read them. Not because they need work (even though they do) but what are the chances of any idea being plagiarized? I know ideas are open to the public, but once you write a script what happens when a better writer with more connections "snipes" the idea? Am I a paranoid novice?

Yep. If you are too scared to show your work, then you're too scared to succeed. Ideas are a dime a dozen, even if someone steals the idea no one will be able to execute that idea like you.
I've mentored a lot of newbies. And the ones crying "I don't want someone to steal my idea" are almost always the ones that A) don't have an original idea, or B) the idea is not good at all.
You may want to show the logline and get people's opinion on whether they are good, bad, or need a rewrite.

A paranoid novice and human. Everyone feels the same way when they start writing.
When Chernobyl was being made there was three other scripts circulating. There had already been two other films made.
The skill is in the telling not the idea. As you begin to develop you will have more ideas in a day than you have in your life leading up to this point.
I have refused work because the agreement said I could not write anything for three years that resembled anything I would shown. They wanted to send 50 loglines to choose from. I guarantee I have had everyone of these ideas myself.
There is an entire site www.logline.it which has thousands of public loglines.
Ideas are not public. They have no individual value as they are not an individual artist expression. Hence cannot be copyrighted.
Sharing enables you to be helped. The community has your back.

Yes, you are a paranoid novice but you'll get over it.

Oscar Ordonez just want to confirm. It may feel you are being dumped on or made fun of by everyone.
But everyone is trying to get you through the paranoid feelings we have all had (as quick as possible).
Because in the other side is creative freedom.

"don't be too precious with your material" is a saying I've heard many times since I started screenplay writing. Get it out there! Trust that the universe is in charge of the synchronicity of it all. People are mostly good. No manager/rep/producer/director wants a bad reputation, and therefore they will honour your stories as your own. There is an absolute flood of content, and the only way yours is going to float to the top is to get it in the pool. Good luck!

Hey, you guys are all great! I appreciate the honest words and live by the idea that fear stifles success. So it was good to get some reality from every angle. My loglines are up and realize they're not as precious as I'm making them seem. If I'm a good writer then the story should reinforce that idea to be the best representation of that.

Oscar Ordonez one more thing to make you feel comfortable. If someone couldn’t come up with your idea, they could write it. They are no more than a monkey staring at a keyboard.
Thank you Craig D Griffiths much love!
