Hi everybody. I'm a young screenwriter from England who is embarking on the grueling journey of producing my original web series. I have written some of the scripts and completely mapped out the beats for the upcoming episodes. My friend who has a background in media and video direction/production will be acting as director as she is very good at these things and very reliable. We had a meeting a couple of days ago to really work through and plot how we are going to tackle this. One of the first things we went through was our budget. It took a while, going over locations, permits, wages, costumes, set dressing etc. But the number comes out to £20,000 that we would need to fund. I already have grants in mind to apply for and we will be crowdfunding. I just want to ask, would you think this a reasonable amount for a female lead comedy web series based out of London with 18 episodes with episodes having an average run time of 5 minutes? With a solid funny and informative campaign video would you be inclined to donate?

That's like 30,000 USD..... if you can produce18 5-minute episodes for that....that's amazing. That's like 1,100 pounds (1,700 USD) per episode. That's incredibly inexpensive. Good luck! (You might want to put this in the Production forum.)
Thank you, Bill, I will consider it. And Oliver, do you mean do the whole production for free or just neglect to pay actors and such? The whole thing is incredibly time consuming, I really want to make something of good stature and it is incredibly hard to get actors to show up for days and days of hard work when they won't be seeing a penny of benefits. I am a student, I have hardly any money of my own so it's not like I have reliable income to support my creative endeavors, unluckily.

Hey Sonibel, the bottom line is you get what you pay for. But there are so many ways you can turn a 20,000 pound budget into a 10 or 12 thousand pound budget. Or less. I gotta say costumes and set dressing jump out at me as being things that you can get away with spending no money on at all. Actors can use their own clothes. If you really need a garment, you can always buy it at a department store, use it for the shoot, then return it for store credit and sell it to your Mom. If you send me your budget I will give you some ideas on cutting it down.
