I’m watching Dexter for the second time; and this time, with a screenwriter’s eye. The story, adapted for television by screenwriter James Manos Junior from Jeff Lindsey’s novels is everything a great show should be. The writing is original, fast-paced and keeps anti-hero Dexter constantly challenged by weighty obstacles in the way of his efforts to dispatch killers that escape justice, while quenching his innate thirst for blood. Screenwriter Manos successfully made Dexter’s characters engaging while creating subplots that were intricately written with an ongoing story that offered plenty of surprises. Like Vince Gill and Matthew Weiner, Manos and the other Dexter screenwriters achieved the kind of high-quality entertainment that is rarely experienced on the small screen.
What say you?
I recently watched Dexter on Netflix. Wonderful, creative writing.
I recently watched the series in August for third time. I agree with @Phil. There IS something about Dexter that intrigues, a lot more than a lot of other stuff, on small screen. The VOICE OVER is an essential ingredient. There are rich and tantalising characters, with switches and stings in plot, but more so we get inside his head.
Apologies I shoulda typed @Phillip. “The Code. The Kill Room......”.
I loved this show then and still do now.
