Screenwriting : What between them by Gilad Riv

Gilad Riv

What between them

Which pitch would be more appealing: one that summarizes the film in one page without being very detailed or one that is longer on the plot/motifs and everything else?

Maurice Vaughan

I think a one-page pitch that summarizes the film without being very detailed is more appealing, Gilad Riv. You don't want your pitch to have so many details that the person you're pitching to gets lost in the details or lose interest.

Stage 32 has two written pitch examples (one for a show and the other for a movie). You can get them by emailing success@stage32.com.

I agree with Maurice, Gilad Riv

Less is more. And what it could bed made for.

Ewan Dunbar

Write both, then a one paragraph version and then a logline. When you pitch you have a moment to grab someone's attention (logline), then you can give them a brief overview (paragraph) and then if they want to know more you can send a one-pager and your script. Having all of these to hand is important when it comes to pitching your project. Spielberg talks about being able to convey a strong story in 25 words or less.

Michael David

For a query letter, the non-detailed one. But be sure to include the important details!
