Dan M - over the decades I've been fired/replaced and rehired on more projects than I can remember - it's the nature of the business.

Dan G - target marketing has its place, but it is a small place. My advice is to write from your heart, don't allow the market to become your guiding light. But be aware of it.

Biggest false advice is "nobody knows anything"...how come then people stay decades in this business, gain billions...pure luck? Guys, hate to break this to you but bitterness is usually first sign of drowned hopes...I myself tried and keep trying for over a decades into writing for film and had strictly limited success...meantime busted my ass into gaining money from graphic design and customer services (which bought me an apartment among other)...no shame to admit someone's low to average within this...can't all be Shane Black's as can't all be Michael Jordan's....world be boring...

Is this a rhetorical question about a rethorical question (?); in your bio you don't talk in the first person. The simple answer to your question is to write something that is still recognitional but can't be stated in x meets y; it's close to original -- not because it wants to be -- but because there's an unconvortabe paradox that the audience (unconsiously) immediately pics up -- gives them chills. Opposites attract... and at the same time... they don't. A good idea molded into a great screenplay almosts, just almosts, sells itself. Although I'm close, I'm still searching for such an idea.
