Screenwriting : What would you do if Amazon Studios "lost" your script? by Charles K. Frazier

Charles K. Frazier

What would you do if Amazon Studios "lost" your script?

You write your script for weeks, using Amazon Storywriter, proceed to upload it for submission and you get an error message, "Trouble connecting: Something went wrong, Refresh and try again" and after an entire month.

It shows on their page that the script was last saved on 28 February 2017 at 4:46 PM, but it still won't load and you cannot retrieve it.

Erik A. Jacobson

I'd send a backup copy. I've had problems with them, too.

Anthony Cawood

I think there are better free options out there, Writers Duet and CeltX to name a couple and I would always have a second backup system and save things regularly... hope it gets fixed!

Craig D Griffiths

Charlie I hope you had a backup. If not, I'd make a huge dent in my whiskey collection. On the bright side rewriting it will allow you to drop the bad things you have been tolerating.

Raymond J. Negron

Keep searching and or write another version for God was telling you that you have something else inside of you to put out and that was only a rough draft. Never give up! Keep writing on!

Wal Friman

I'd email the Amazon Storywriter developer asking them to send a copy of it, at least as a PDF file.

Antonio Ingram

For the future, I would say save it as a PDF document so you would have a backup. I'm very sorry about that, Charlie. Maybe something can get worked out or maybe this will lead to something even greater. I wish you the best.

Craig D Griffiths

Backups have become so important these days with cloud services. It is cold comfort, but I can sympathise. I use Celtx.which is cloud as well, I just use the send function to email it to myself when I think about it. Which will be more often now. Best you can do is hit their support section and see if they can help. Please keep us all posted.

Doug Nelson

I wouldn't really care or worry about it.

Craig D Griffiths

Charlie what was the outcome?

Charles K. Frazier

Hey Craig D Griffiths, the outcome is they still have not helped me recover my script and won't even communicate with me. It's like, "Yeah, we lost it, get over it!"

I highly suggest never using Amazon Studios "Story writer" program.

Doug Nelson

Yeah Charlie - that's the best advice, just get over it, move in and not fret about it. You've hopefully learned a lesson from it.

Anthony Cawood

In other departments, I've found Amazon to have amazing customer service, they're famous for it... sorry to hear that isn't the case here... can you imagine if your Bank lost some of your money and had the same attitude!

Phillip E. Hardy, Prolifique

Charlie: I would never use someone's online platform to save my work. Best to buy some screenwriting software and or there is some free software available online. Save your work to your hard drive my friend.

Pierre Langenegger

Sorry to hear that, Charlie but hopefully you'll never solely store your files on a web-based platform again.

Craig D Griffiths

I am a Celtx guy. It's cloud based, but I still email versions to myself when I stop writing. After years in IT I am paranoid. Cold comfort for you I realise. If there is a silver lining to be found. This loss is force a rewrite which is hard to start at the best of times. It did use Amazon Story for a while, but didn't like there was no app. I am a small moments writer, I need a mobile app to writer on so I can do it when I have a few minutes.
