Bringing emotions to life

Hi everyone. I am so glad to join this community. It is always hard to describe ourselves; understanding my path is to understand the origins of this story. My first venture was a documentary in Portuguese called "Subculturas, do Vintage para o futuro" (Subcultures, from vintage to the future). After that, I joined a unique project: I raised from almost nothing my own company at the age of 24. It was an Art gallery with a fine dining restaurant. I was always fond of betting on new young talents - after all, I was someone young trying to make the difference too. It is all a matter of options in life, and all-in-all I was affected by the unfortunate destiny of the company, as well as the previous personal experience of dealing with my grandmother's Alzheimer's disease - why mention this you may ask; it marked the core of my work: memory and time. In Brighton I have found an amazing variety of people, an open mentality and the opportunity of getting to know people like me. It was time to give my passion a chance, and with my academic and technical skills, I started to develop the The I in between the Us. It was created through much personal sacrifice - I put all the money I had in it, which was not much (I still remember carrying all the gear on my back and in a small trolley bag because I couldn't pay for transportation, since I was letting a small studio). There was no funding, but there was an amazing strength and will power to do it. At the same time, I was dealing with depression and anxiety; I have written a new script called A Song of the Anxious (a story about a busker suffering from anxiety and how she manages to overcome it with music) that it's intended to break stigmas around mental issues. It is the result of a struggle to succeed while dealing with those issues. Hope to meet wonderful people here! Joao

Thank you for sharing this inspirational story, Joao. And it is a pleasure to meet another writer that writes about what matters and what will captivate, inspire, and provoke thought in others. I wish you all the best with everything you attempt.
