Hello! I'm in the development stage of the screenplay/script for my film production. I'm feeling lost in regards to how best to get the film's story out of my head and put it on paper. When you say you are feeling lost, is it in regard on how to actually write a screenplay or how to write this particular screenplay. If it's the latter, I might suggest writing it as an outline or possibly even a short story first to work out the details.

Hi Timothy. You don't have to be a screenwriter to write a story but you do have to be one to write a screenplay. Whether you are a screenwriter or not you still need to get the story out. Just transfer what you're thinking, seeing and feeling onto paper. It doesn't have to be perfect it just has to be concrete so you can work with it. As Art Arthur is reputed to have said:"Don't get it right, get it written!" Once you've got it written you can set about organizing the material in line with the principles of story. Once you have a compelling, well structured story you can concentrate on getting it scripted. My 5c anyway. All the best with it.

Those are all great pieces of advice- just keep writing!
Try telling someone the entire story, record it and than transcribe it. That will give you something complete to edit.
