Screenwriting : Want to co-write a feature with Joe Esterhas? by Anthony Cawood

Anthony Cawood

Want to co-write a feature with Joe Esterhas?

Well kinda... There's a new opportunity for you to write a two minute script that will be one of 50 scripts used for the new film Impact, the first of those has already been written by Esterhas! The people behind the ide have done this before with 50 Kisses which came out last year. Full details can be found at http://theimpact.create50.com/theimpact Good luck to those who decide to submit. Anthony

Kerry Douglas Dye

Oh, cool. I think I'm in. I love me a good apocalypse. :)

Anthony Cawood

My thoughts exactly ;-)

Phil Parker

I'm all over that like flies on a meat pie, mate! Cheers!!

Jean-Pierre Chapoteau

I already have my outline for both scripts. I just need to write them.

Shane M Wheeler

I almost wrote a longer short about this topic, but a two minute could be a lot more fun.

Kerry Douglas Dye

Just created my account. Friend me when you're set up.

Anthony Cawood

I've set mine up too, cannot work out the Friend thingy, I just get a mostly blank page when I try it, you?

Kerry Douglas Dye

One way that works is to search for someone or browse users. Then you have a Friend Request button. Haven't explored enough to spot other interfaces. I Friend-Requested you.

Anthony Cawood

Cool mate - I'll accept it and figure it out later :-)

Jean-Pierre Chapoteau

I'll set up my account now.

Kerry Douglas Dye

Just posted my first entry. Probably have one a day for a few days running. Embarrassing to admit, but I have butterflies. I don't think I've ever posted a screenplay for public review before. Very not my thing. And I haven't written a short since college!

Anthony Cawood

I'll take a look later, I haven't submitted anything yet, too busy with the OWC over on SimplyScripts!

Jean-Pierre Chapoteau

Now I'll have to take a look at simply scripts. I thought we can only post two for the Impact contest? It's an unlimited amount, as long as we pay the fee?

Jean-Pierre Chapoteau

Ah, dang it, I missed the OWC

Kerry Douglas Dye

I believe it is unlimited. No one ever tells you, "don't send me TOO much money..." In other news, I have no idea what OWC is. Thus I am either hip and above it all, or completely clueless.

Anthony Cawood

OWC = One Week Challenge, they set a challenge to write a short over the space of a week, the submitted scripts are then put up for public review - without the authors names on. Then everyone reviews them, and ultimately votes on them too, This one had the following criteria... You must write one script (properly formatted)* between 5 to 12 pages (courier 12 point font) on this month's theme: Theme: Open Genre: Open Location: An Elevator or Lift (a moving platform or cage for carrying passengers or freight from one level to another, as in a building.) The story must take place in and/or around an elevator. Low/No budget. Some decent scripts in the batch this time and it's a good bit of fun and banter.

Kerry Douglas Dye

Ah. Clueless. Sounds like fun.

Mark Gunnion

Sounds fun - I'd do most anything to get "next to" Joe! He's my personal Movie God!

Kerry Douglas Dye

Guys, when you have the time, I need a pity read for my entry "Human Resources" (http://theimpact.create50.com/scripts/55717ffb3838336732030000). Due to a technical glitch that took a day to sort out with site admins, it debuted at like #10 on the "Just Uploaded" list. So no one's read the damn thing. It show below a dozen more recent entries, all read and reviewed, with poor old me down the list completely ignored. Assistance appreciated. Once I have a single review, I'm putting another entry up. My ego won't permit me to have two simultaneously on the "unread" list, even briefly. So I thank you. :)

Anthony Cawood

Done Kerry, will let you know when I finally get round to posting... currently still waiting for muse to stop by!

Kerry Douglas Dye

Good man, thanks Anthony. Now I can show my face back around there. Going to post #3 now.

Anthony Cawood

For those who are involed... I've just uploaded my first script for this... called 'It's A...' - would appreciate reads, comments etc if you get 5 mins. http://theimpact.create50.com/scripts/557832bf38383303cb020000 Cheers Anthony

Kerry Douglas Dye

Excellent work, Anthony. I've reviewed it.

Anthony Cawood

Thanks Kerry, glad you iked it, really appreciate the read... wonder if any other S32ers have entered/joined yet? I flicked through and coudn't see any other familiar names...

Kerry Douglas Dye

If you're looking for more to read, I've submitted 6 total so far. :)

Anthony Cawood

6, already, wow! I'll have a look throught then and review some more... be great to get an S32 script in the finl selection!

Kerry Douglas Dye

Yeah, taking a breather now. :) Time to get back to my feature. Have one or two other ideas, but they're half baked at the moment.

Emi Sano

I'm doing this too!! I did the first one (50 Kisses) and made it through the long list but got cut afterwards. Still it was a fun experience!

Anthony Cawood

Have you uploaded anything yet Emi? Let me know and I'll give it a read...

Kerry Douglas Dye

Oh, hey Emi, then you've got the inside track... I don't fully understand how it works. Have a minute for a run-through? They pick x number of "finalists", right? What's the value of "x", any idea? Then multiple filmmaking crews can film those scripts? Then they pick fifty of the finished films? Is that right, or do I have it all cock-eyed? And also, what's the timeline of some of these steps, if you have an idea? Like, 6 weeks of judging, a month of filmmakers signing up, etc., etc... Thanks in advance! I just sent you a friend request, and I'll check out your scripts shortly. :)

Emi Sano

Hey Kerry, I think they have the deadline in August. Afterwards, it was pretty quick to find out if you made it through the first and second rounds. What they're doing different this year is that we, as writers, also get to help judge and rate each other's scripts!! I love this idea now because before we didn't really get a chance to read them until after they've been chosen. And you get a chance to send in redrafts. Super thumbs up on that. What they did when I did the first one was they chose like a ton of scripts (maybe 500?) and then had judges read through them again and it brought it down to like 100 scripts and then judge again and then that got down to 50. You do get a chance (if you didn't make it) to be chosen as a wild card if a filmmaker has seen and read your script and liked it. I really hope I made sense.

Emi Sano

Anthony -- YES. I have two scripts that I put up. Solitary and The Wedding!! Please give me some feedback (especially with The Wedding) because I need to make them a bit better than they are now.

Kerry Douglas Dye

Ah, okay, thanks. I wasn't sure if they picked 50 scripts to be made, or had extra scripts produced then picked 50 final films. So basically, if your script is one of the 50, it makes it into the movie even if the production of it is awful? Interesting. :)

Anthony Cawood

Hey Emi - have read and commented on both of yours... you can see mine at http://theimpact.create50.com/scripts/557832bf38383303cb020000 Anthony

Emi Sano

Anthony I just read it and left a comment for you. :) Thanks!

Emi Sano

Kerry, that's what I'm assuming... I haven't yet seen the final product of 50 kisses but from what I read it faired pretty well in the festival circuit.

Anthony Cawood

Thanks Emi - glad you liked!

Guy McDouall

Hey! Thanks for sharing this Anthony.

Anthony Cawood

Pleasure Guy... let us know if you enter something and I'll go have a read.

Stevan Šerban

Thanks a lot Anthony!

Anthony Cawood

My second script has just gone up, please feel free to take a read - http://theimpact.create50.com/scripts/557b723638383357ee360000

Kerry Douglas Dye

And I've posted my seventh. :) http://theimpact.create50.com/scripts/557b972738383357e23a0000 Feedback welcome.

Anthony Cawood

Done Kerry

Steven Harris Anzelowitz

I am going the positive way, I figured out how some can survive. Enough of this gloom and Doom 2 pages, 2 minutes, Count me in I am going to register soon as I can .

Kerry Douglas Dye

Let us know when you post. They have a "Friend" system, but it doesn't do anything as far as I can tell. It's not like you get a notification when one of your friends posts a new script.

Anthony Cawood

What Kerry said - let us know on here and we'll go give it a read...

Bill Costantini

Good luck x 7, KD!

Kerry Douglas Dye

Thanks, Bill. I believe in the "throw enough sh*t against the wall" approach to screenwriting. :)

Phil Parker

Finally got my profile set up there. Look forward to reading your stuff everyone!

Kerry Douglas Dye

Just put up my eighth. http://theimpact.create50.com/scripts/55876a2b3838331d6c430000 Based on what I've learned the community likes, I think this one's a guaranteed three-starrer. :)

Kerry Douglas Dye

Not to be annoying with these, but my ninth is now up. It's called Prospero and the Tempest, and it's here: http://theimpact.create50.com/scripts/558e22253838332933160000 Love to hear from an S32er or two, and looking forward to returning the favor.

Kerry Douglas Dye

Digging up this ancient thread to congratulate Anthony Cawood and Emi Sano to making the finals for this (very) long-running enterprise. Nine months ago I reported my ninth entry. Ultimately I submitted 19. They closed submissions in December, and finally, today announced finalists. Presumably it will be another 2 months before the final 50 are selected. Meanwhile, thanks to Anthony for originally getting me involved. As you can see, I participated quite enthusiastically, and it was a lot of fun. :)

Anthony Cawood

Thanks Kerry/Damien appreciated. Kerry congrats looked like you had a bunch come through! Well done mate. Congrats to Emi too and any othe Stage 32ers who progressed, good effort!

Emi Sano

Woow! That's awesome! Thank you Kerry and Anthony for the congrats... I can't even get on the website to see which one was chosen. Thanks for letting me know on here! :)

Emi Sano

Congrats Anthony!!!

Anthony Cawood

Yours was The Wedding, Emi.

Kerry Douglas Dye

Emi, it was The Wedding.

Emi Sano

Thanks for letting me know. This was totally unexpected. I'm so proud of everyone who did it! :) Kerry, keep pushing your scripts to be picked for wild card. :D

Kerry Douglas Dye

Well I'd be happy to grab a wildcard slot, Emi, but I did have some proper finalists as well. (For months after you and Anthony had moved on to other things, I was still gleefully submitting away. I love me some apocalypse.)

Phil Parker

Well done, everyone!
