Introduce Yourself : Hello! by Sean Griffin

Sean Griffin

Hello!

Hi everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi! I only heard about Stage 32 yesterday and wanted to come inside and see what all the fuss was about, great experience so far. I'm not an actor myself, although I am married to one - my wife is a tv and theatre actress - so I do get to experience a thing or two about this world. I'm primarily a maker in the tech space, and my latest venture - www.shoot.me - came about after around the hundredth time I helped my wife make a self tape for a film or tv role. After fumbling around with editing tools and file-sharing sites we figured there had to be an easier way and hopefully we've gone some way to solving some of those annoyances for actors and casting directors. Anyway I won't go into detail of that here, that's not the purpose of this post, but generally speaking I would be really interested to hear from actors, agents and casting directors on all things to do with self tapes or online auditions. It's good to be here!

Welcome Sean !

Rutger Oosterhoff

How about a story line in which your wife plays the ROLES of 'ACTOR' using the AP in getting an 'AGENT', 'CASTING DIRECTOR' , 'PRODUCER' and 'DIRECTOR' to shoot an advertisement further promoting your AP... Just goofing around. Good luck!

Sean Griffin

Ha, I didn't think of that! Bloody good idea. And thanks for the keywords. Deep linking brother ;-)

Chad Stroman

Welcome!

Bill Hartin

Welcome to S32 (a section of MI6 operating in the film industry). Happy to help out as much as I can so long as we don't leave a traceable trail.

S.J. Robinson

Ha good one Bill, and welcome Sean...I think you might be getting slowly bedazzled by the industry. It is hard to keep away when u catch the bug bigtime :D

Sean Griffin

Bill Hartin thanks Bill, I have a secure line ready to go! And S.J. Robinson yes you might be right, I will seek professional help soon. Just not today...

S.J. Robinson

@Sean Griffin , Jack Nicholson just called, he said the cuckoo's nest has been usurped by stage 32... ur in now, and der's no escaping ;D

S.J. Robinson

Sean, just checked your site, that's actually a really useful app. Maybe you should talk to Richard "RB" Botto or Amanda Toney about advertising it on the site. And maybe u cud give s32 members a special discount. Wish u all the best with it!

Sean Griffin

S.J. Robinson thanks a lot that's a great idea, I will do! Although a discount might not be necessary as the app is free to download for actors right now! Glad you like it!

S.J. Robinson

Free? For how long? Is it still in Beta?

Sean Griffin

No it's not in beta, we just wanted to keep it free for actors to use...

John Ellis

Good for you, Sean, for keeping the app free! So little in this industry is about giving back!

S.J. Robinson

Yes, good idea Sean. Get it out there, sounds great! So can u like do an audition piece from home and email direct to whoever is doing the casting call? Is that right?

Sean Griffin

Thanks John Ellis yes, we were getting frustrated at actors just being viewed as a pay day and wanted to try and avoid that. S.J. Robinson, yes, it allows you to record, slate, edit etc all from within the app, and there are filters, light settings etc and then you just input the email address of the recipient and they get a link to download or view the audition. There's no need for WeTransfer or Dropbox or Vimeo or any of that stuff, you can send even large files straight from the app. Each user also gets an online storage space when they register at www.shoot.me where they can store past auditions etc and so can access them even when they don't have their phone.

S.J. Robinson

That's really handy Sean, i would definitely let RB Botto and Amanda know that it exists anyway. I am not speaking for them, but they might see some potential opportunity for it from the site's POV. They already do live pitching sessions for writers, so maybe this could offer a quick and simple solution for casting directors/talent agents to use?? No harm in asking!

Sean Griffin

Thanks for the advice S.J. Robinson , I'll make sure I drop them a line, would be great to do something with S-32!
