I see so many screenwriters write about things in the lounge, but often many of them are unfamiliar with the business side of things. There is a disconnect to actually seeing the script go from page to screen. And, in fact, I wrote a BLOG about a movie called Getting Grace a few weeks ago that received a lot of comments, but not as many from some of the screenwriters on the site. It's the story of Jeff Lewis (the man on the L in the photo) and how he got a script to a real producer, who then, unknowingly to Jeff, got a script to Daniel Roebuck (R in the photo), one of the actors from Matlock and LOST and many movies. Danny got this script made into a movie, although it took some time, got a good cast, and the movie was distributed into theaters. It's an informative read. Just go to BLOG and scroll down and click the 2 to get to the second page. The BLOG I wrote - How to Get an Independent Film Made & Distributed will be right at the top. Phil, he literally worked it like a politician - as I said - or P.T. Barnum. But, I was present at no fewer than four screenings, three of which were sold out (the other had over a 100 people). I also watched them move a good amount of merch. Moreover, he made a lot of the screenings (not all from the theatrical release, but some of the one-night events, as well as Opening NIght on some of the L.A. Theatrical Screenings) events. And, his wife Tammy was present at a local Tampa multiplex for a full week of all the screenings during their Theatrical Release. And, one of my key points was that Jeff Lewis, the co-writer was so GRATEFUL to have Danny help him. There was no creative differences. I've read posts from many screenwriters, who I have doubts would even let you help them. Honestly? And, not because he's a friend of mine, but I'm so proud of what Danny did with that movie.
