Your Stage : What's everyone working on this week? by Jerrod D. Brito

What's everyone working on this week?

Also, what are you most excited for in the process? And what will be your biggest obstacle? How will you overcome it?

This week for me:

- I'm consulting with my editor on a short horror film called "Sleep Tight." (https://www.facebook.com/SleepTightFilm/) I'm most excited about getting one step closer to having a finished film, and going through the footage only makes me more excited. The biggest obstacle: some of our sound didn't come out as clear as we would have liked. To overcome it, I've consulted with many sound editors in film and music to weigh our options, and they're all very smart people who want to help us make our best film. We'll likely have to ADR, but in the end, I think it'll be fine.

- I'm also helping to push the crowdfunding campaign forward for a feature I co-wrote, called "Devil's Knight: Volumes of Blood 3." (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/devil-s-knight-vob3#/) I'm most excited to be a part of a feature-length film (it's my first), especially because it's in my favorite genre! The biggest obstacle is that this campaign began before I read Richard "RB" Botto 's book on crowdsourcing, so we lack the advantage of using most of the techniques the book highlights. To overcome this, we'll have to adapt and evolve strategies pretty late in the game, but this is filmmaking. We're here because we're creative individuals, and so I'm confident that we'll do the best that we can and hopefully figure it out.

- I'm also going to re-write my latest feature at the end of the week/next weekend. It' a low budget horror, 1 location, only a handful of characters, very few effects. I'm excited to finish because I believe this is the final re-write. The biggest obstacle will be finding the time, considering I have these other projects + a full-time day job contending for my time and attention, but the sooner it's done, the sooner I can get it out there.

- Sleep. I'm excited because I haven't done it consistently in a very long time. Obstacles: (see above.) Overcoming this obstacle: Let's be honest. I'm going to have to table this one until next week.

Grateful to you for mentioning CROWDSOURCING FOR FILMMAKERS in this post, Jerrod, and absolutely thrilled that the information within helped inform the planning and direction of your campaign. Wishing you nothing but the best with it. Please do keep me posted on the progress. And if you haven't already, I truly would appreciate if you would review the book on Amazon. Thanks in advance! Cheers, my friend.

@Jerrod Congratulations on managing to pack in so much writing whilst having a day job and also on your campaign launch.

Jerrod D. Brito

Thank you so much, Debbie! How are you spending this week? (Hopefully, YOU were able to schedule sleep among everything.)

Debbie Croysdale

Hi Jerrod I’m pretty much in same boat as you regards sleep. I’m in the middle of some exciting projects aswell so tend to have binge writing spells where I only catch a few hours but then catch up on sleep the next following night. I CAN write the whole day and night but stopped doing that cos I only ever crash a few hours after and on waking the rest of the day is a twilight zone. Im a horror fan aswell in the middle of a final draft on the latest but have a couple of others funded and work in progress. I’m Indie not big studio, so we stop n start in segments, as and when crew n location available. Its exhausting having to sort everything and one day I hope to find a major studio take over my projects, so Im having one to one pitch practices with key industry players, so when I do get in front of LA big shots I know what the f... I’m saying. LOL. I do regularly festival pitch but Im coming USA next year for some private appointments. Wishing you a fruitful week ahead!

Jerrod D. Brito

That's all exciting stuff, Debbie! Congrats! Please let me know when your projects are read to be viewed. I look forward to seeing your progress. :-)

Debbie Croysdale

Many thanks Jerrod will keep you posted. Its only a couple of my projects I'm pitching to big guns, because my 24/7 passion is Indie Film where I have control, however I have some concepts that I know will benefit from a much meatier production design facility. Also it gets complicated with lawyers/police etc asking for permits for helicopters/explosives etc.

So although I love Indie over institution per sae, its like I'm giving loved pets away, pitching them to a studio cos I know film would have a better chance in life. LOL

Jerrod D. Brito

Agreed! There are a few I've been pitching, just because I simply can't pull that kind of money or resources together, but I love writing indies above all.

Hello RB, I am working on getting my screenplay out there and hopefully see it turn into a TV Series or Movie. I'm working with a writer from LA name Bill Maddox who has finished writing about a true story with my brother and I, we are just a couple of Jersey guys who retired after decades in the waste management business.

As you might imagine, we have a lot of great stories, being in the same business as Tony Soprano and all, but we also have the unique distinction of being just about the only honest brokers on the the entire eastern seaboard. We survived the corruption of the business, including but not limited to the mob, the feds, local cops on the take, and other dishonest brokers who finally got us blackballed from the industry after years of trying.

You might say we are the Serpicos of the trash industry.

We are also profane and funny in our honest recollections, with a take-no-prisoners attitude about our past.

If you'd be interested in helping us take this to the next level? Please feel free to contact me anytime. And we will tell you the honest truth why companies like Toys R Us, Linens N Things & A&P all NJ companies went bankrupt.

We have also just finished a news interview by Brian Donohue from channel 12 news NJ. Here is the link below of our interview that aired this last Tuesday April 9th 2019.
