Screenwriting : Dialog issue. by Ben Madeley

Dialog issue.

Bit of advice again if possible. I am currently working on a project that involves the protagonist understanding an undead person. Now as the viewer we can't understand and all we hear are moans, groans and snarls. The character however, understands that clearly and responds normally. Would I need to put the groans and moans into dialog format or can a just put the protagonists response with the action before hand stating that the undead person groaned?

Also to save posting another thread. With a character walking down a long street would the location just be EXT. STREET or can it be broke down into different sections?

Thanks for the advice in advance everyone!!

Just have the living actor/character respond. The audience will figure out what the undead person is going on about. Similar example is the Star Wars franchise --- we don't understand the droids and Chewbacca when they speak, but we understand them when the actors reply.

That's a very true point, it's kind of what I had planned to do I was just unsure if I needed to still script that dialog down. Thanks for the advice!

If the crew doesn't have to load up it is just one scene. If the character reaches a street corner or something you can use a sub-scene heading and try to be specific in case you have more than one street. Example:

EXT. CITY STREET - NIGHT

Blah, blah. blah...

He reaches the --

CORNER

Blah, blah blah.

Maybe there are other ways but that is how I do it.

You've heard of a tracking shot?
