Words From a Bear ~ Screenwriting Inspiration

This has been on my mind for a couple of weeks now, and this morning, it came front and center. So here it is.

Recently we attended some films at the Loft Film Festival in Tucson. The Loft is a great theater that avidly supports indie film. One of the festival selections was WORDS FROM A BEAR, a documentary about the Native American writer, N. Scott Momaday, a Pulitzer Prize honored author.

As a point of full disclosure, years ago my partner Lesley had the good fortune to find a house here in Tucson... a house where Momaday once lived. In fact, she now writes on a desk that he once owned and we both create in that house.

All that out of the way, it was an absolute delight to see this doc. Momaday is so brilliantly eloquent it was an inspiration to listen to him speak his words. He is a totally eloquent and brilliant man! He also penned screenplays. At one point Beau Bridges reached out to him to write a script about the Carlisle Indian School. When you have the Bridges brothers singing his praises... and Robert Redford, too, you know this guy is a master.

We left the theater so inspired and in such a profound way, I cannot articulate the feeling. The DVD is soon to be released on Amazon. I am eagerly awaiting my copy to watch during the holidays for more fire in the belly to clear out this year and dive into 2020.

WORDS FROM A BEAR is a fabulous source of creative combustion. Can't recommend it enough.

Thank you, CJ. I was inspired beyond the beyond. Hope it does the same for you.

Bill Costantini

I saw the trailer over the summer. What a beautiful piece from one of America's great artists. And that's way cool about the house and desk - way cool. There are a lot of great interviews with Mr. Marmady on Youtube, too. What an all-around Great Citizen of Mother Earth he is.

Thanks for the reminder, Phillip, and best fortunes in your's and Lesley's continued creative endeavors!

Thank you, Bill, for your well wishes for Lesley and myself. It's great to be in the presence of the creative vibes Scott left behind. Since seeing the film, I feel him even more.

Amazon said my DVD arrives tomorrow. I know what we'll be watching with leftovers.

Bill Costantini I am appreciative of your kind thoughts, Bill. The day I met Scott remains one of my treasured days, I liken it as though I had made acquaintance with Yoda, or Confucius, one of those rare personages in possession of a magical aura...
