Hello Mark, I've done the standard coverage and the Phone consultation with an executive. Standard coverage was good - nothing really special compared to other coverage services, but nothing bad either. It was thorough and insightful and offered some good perspectives and suggestions. The phone consultation was much more useful for me, because you get to ask questions and dig in to the topics and points you want to work out. You also get to pick who you do the consult with based on their bio, but the consult was fairly expensive compared to the standard coverage.
I have tried about 5 different coverage services over the years; including Stage 32, which I was not impressed with; the producer who read my script just commented on how she would have done things - not how to improve what was there. It was a long time ago, so I am very foggy on the details, and it was an early script of mine, so it was probably bad anyway! Suffice to say I sent it elsewhere afterwards. HOWEVER, you can pick from a number of different readers on Stage 32 - I just happened to pick one that didn't do a good job, which can happen anywhere I suppose.
A had one with a Development Exec just a few weeks ago and before we finished he informed me he liked my proposal so much he was going to recommend the studio he worked for develop the project. Now I just have to wait it out and see what happens. Its like any of the other times you try and promote you're work. Sometimes it works and they like it sometimes they just don't get it.
Thx for the info. Notes are always hit or miss and there's a wide range of opinion about coverage services. Totally agree that it's often a matter of who reads a script.
An advantage is that you can get background notes and a pretty clear description of what the producer is looking for when it comes to pitches. I see come looking for comedies, reality series, or rom coms and I know not to spend any time or money on them.
i singed up for the first 10 page coverage, as it was more my speed (financially speaking) The notes i got back wasn't what i had hoped but Sarah gave me some sage advice
Unfortunately I think its a crap shoot where ever you go. I've had very helpful coverage and coverage where I really questioned if it was read carefully or merely skimmed.
Script coverage is always hit or miss. I'm seeking out opinions. Seems a number of people question the value of paid services. Also helps to do research.
