Screenwriting Advice

Hi everyone! I have just completed my first TV pilot script. The story bible is done and I have outlined each episode for series 1 after the pilot script. I have had two professional readers review it and each one had positive feedback and said the concept is marketable. I am looking for any advice on where to go next. I spoke to someone at Netflix but they won't read it without an agent or producer signed on. Every agency I have searched has also stated they won't accept unsolicited material without a recommendation. If anyone could offer up some advice or would like to help out in any way I'd be grateful!

Hi Jennifer. Have you looked at the pitch sessions yet? Also, have you tried entering the pilot script in some of the festivals? You can take a look at them here and on film freeway.

It sounds like you have lots of things headed in the right direction. Like you I'm working on selling a series, have gotten positive feedback, won festivals, etc, and just keep pitching it. Even had one producer through Stage 32 tell me he was going to recommend it to his company but never hear back from him. It's not easy, a lot of "hurry up and wait" goes on in the process and you just have to be ready for the long hail.

Good luck. Hope you go pro.

Bill

P.S. Also look at Script Revolution.

Bill Albert Thank you so much for the help! I'll look into it.

Jennifer, a good next step would be to look at various legitimate screenplay/pitch competitions and film festivals that are here and on Film Freeway, as Bill was suggesting. As you prepare to submit to these, be sure to go to their websites and look up what kinds of concepts and scripts have been accepted to these competitions. This will help you figure out if their festival or competition is a good fit for your material so that you maximize your festival/competition fee budget. Generally, when I submit to film festivals and competitions and the like, I like to do 1 or 2 "Pie In The Sky" entries simply because you never know, and then try to research as many as possible that will be a good fit. I hope this information is helpful. Good luck, and congratulations on finishing your script and putting together your story bible.

Dan MaxXx Hi Dan, honestly I hadn't thought about it. I've previously collaborated on past projects and just finished one but this one something that I've been working on for a year by myself so I finally want to get it off somewhere

Brian Carlin Hi Brian, thank you! I have it in two scriptwriting competitions and had feedback from one saying some good things and I find out on Tuesday if it made it to the quarterfinals, so fingers crossed. But I'll keep scouting competitions that will be a good fit.

Stage 32 can assist with both. (Education, FAQ, Script Services)

Just out of curiosity, have you thought of making a 1 to 2 minute trailer all by yourself with few friends. This way you can cut through many layers of looping around one after another person, festivals to finally get to the producer who can help to make this script into a good web series.
