Introduce Yourself : Actor for trade! by Lynelle Paulick

Actor for trade!

We Need GREAT Writing!!!!! It needs to be seen! How do we do that? Is it more table reads? How do we collaborate so that we as a community can get some "creative content" right out where it can be seen, appreciated, and pointed at while yelling out, "THERE IT IS"!

I do, like all of us actors, so much auditioning that I get to see what's being put forth into production; yet Sometimes, I am left wondering at the quality -- or not -- of what I am being asked to create for a role and also to watch on network TV, film, or streaming platforms as "examples of great work." Sometimes, I am left totally wanting, with question marks on just how High we are aiming as a creative industry.

It's tough to think of working with some of the material that is out there. I will bet 1000% that there are countless writers (and others) here on Stage 32 who have fabulous material but are still trying to get it read, seen, bought, whatever. This new collab with Netflix could be AMAZINGggggg for all of us in that regard -- get some great writing out where everyone can experience it.

So, if anyone is looking to do table reads of their material just to have it seen and heard, I want to be part of that!!!! OR any other platform.

There are an awful lot of folks here. Is anyone ready to Stand and Deliver (hahaa)?

Best to all!

Oh, the mess you may have just gotten yourself into! LOL! A table read is one thing I've not done with my screenplay yet. I'd be interested in potentially working with you to get one done. Please contact and connect with me if interested.

Deanne E. Gwinn

Your post is intriguing. When you audition you read just a scene or two, not the whole script, right? What is it in that short piece of a script that tells you if it's great writing or not? Where does the quality or crappiness of a script or story shine through the most -- dialogue, action, character behavior, situation?

Lynelle Paulick

Yes. Let me get back with you in a day. I have class tonight and work today, so I cannot focus on this fabulous conversation. Okay, Deanne, I'll be here again soon!

INterested! please message details thanks!

Lynelle - I believe great writing comes from great reading (literature and great scripts), from writing a lot (each and every day for at least an hour), and from learning how to write well. The latter means working with industry professionals who know the standards. For me, that means investing in a long-term script consultant. (It takes money to make money.) Consider that only about 1% of screenplays out there will be Optioned or Produced. What that tells me is that great screenwriting is not and cannot be based on a community effort.

Lynelle Paulick

Gilberto, with "community effort," are you referring back to the initial idea we threw out about doing table reads to get the material "out" (on the table ;) )? I would assume a screenplay is Done and ready to be tested and is not being itself being created through a community effort -- because then it's not the writer's product. I think I'm probably missing something in your comment above! Thanks.

Lynelle Paulick

Deanne! So, yes, we only read a page or a few for any given audition. I know nothing, relative to the infinite specialists out there who can bleed this information from their pores; but I can add a little bit: I believe it is All of those together that turn any given set of sides (pulled from an actual full script) from simple words and notes to flowing gold. All those "separate" aspects will seem totally discrete, but will hold the Whole within each part. Like a fractal, of course. And when the writer does this, we can FEEL IT. When a set of sides (or entire script, of course) shines the most? It Has To reflect in the dialogue! It Has To be in the evolving situation (that is indicated by the dialogue and stage directions for action); and the directions for action need to be clear enough to drive the behavior. Dang. Clearly just my opinion. I do hope we work together -- a great learning and working experience for Everyone involved....
