Introducing Myself

Hi,

I’m Gerae sounds like “hooray” but with a “j” sound. I graduated college in 2015 with a degree in dance and up until this year worked in education since then because, you know, that line of work is easier for family and friends to wrap their heads around. Education takes A LOT out of a person and applause to all those who wake up everyday supporting all of those students. It takes a lot of acting, pretending, making it up as you go, holding in your pee and breakdowns until your scheduled lunch break… if you get it. My position was not renewed last year and instead of trying to find a new teaching job I left the world I know I could have gotten stuck in because there will always be a need for teachers. So now everyone asks; “What are you doing now?” “Are you working yet?” “What do you want to do?” and sharing the dreaded, “It can’t be that hard to find a job, everywhere is hiring.”

Ever since I was four-years-old, I wanted to be on stage, I wanted to perform, so that’s what I’m aiming for now. I’m almost thirty and just now saying, “f*** it, chase the dreams.” So here I am now, starting this journey.

Love everything about your intro, the greatest personal story & or film script is when the struggling artist is all in & ultimately, achieves success ! I was so mislead as a child by those Starving Artist Commercials, not realizing they were constructed & painted on assembly lines in third world countries !

Good to meet you, Gerae Stack, and welcome to the community! I feel you and your story to my core. I was raised in the DC area where so many people go into the federal service that this notion of going into the arts with no immediate "return on investment" was often looked upon with derision. As you say, often questions arise making you play lawyer to your decisions. Well, you've come to the right place for encouragement and advice!

Have you checked out the Acting Lounge yet? I think you'll enjoy meeting like-minded creatives there: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/acting As a costumer, I think you'll also enjoy the Filmmaking Lounge: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/directing

Keep in mind that these lounges are like the VIP Filmmaker's Lounges at Film Festivals, so this is where you can meet the people doing the work, get advice on anything you're working on, and/or give back to those who may need advice. We're a very supportive and encouraging community! I think you'd also enjoy my blog post on how to get the most out of the Stage32 Community:

Enjoy exploring the lounges, and don't forget to comment and respond to others’ posts, too! It's the best way to really connect!
