I have a problem with stage 32 service

hi guys, I finished my script after 6 years, and this is my first script, so it was important for me to know the opinion of experts about it and I used most of the 32 stage services(pitch session, first 10 pages review, script coverage) and I got good and bad feedback from them, some of them enjoying the sequences and some of them offering me to change it. now I'm completely confused and I don't know what to do? my script won an Honorable Mention at a big apple film festival recently. But I do not know if to win I have to change it again and consult with other experts or not.

Hi Erfan, that's a tough position to be in. It's very hard for someone to be objective when editing a story, to separate their own personal values from objective story criteria. And the level of story knowledge among "experts" can often be wide. I wish I had an easy solution. You have to try to find a true expert that you can trust. But you will always have to come to trust your own mind, too. Keep studying to learn story more yourself so you will be able to better judge the comments of others. Scott

Honorable Mention in a contest that seems to be run quarterly that isn't one of the major contests?

Your focus should be on finding every problem with your screenplay so that you can fix it.

That begins with you being brutally self critical. YOU need to be able to find all of the flaws in your script. YOU need to be able to tear it apart. YOU need to get the script to the point where you can read your 4 favorite screenplays (not the screenplays from your 4 favorite movies, though some might be - we are talking about THE WRITING) then read your screenplay, and if one of those things is not like the others? Rewrite it until it is. Until your screenplay reads just like those 4 professional screenplays.

That's when you are ready for outside criticism.

Then focus on top contests. The ones that get you noticed in the business.

While you are doing all of this, work on your writing speed. This is a job with deadlines.

Hey Erfan Yaali - happy to help with this! Of course, first and foremost the professionals who work with Stage 32 want you to succeed. So all of their comments/suggestions/constructive criticism comes from that place. So please keep that in mind when reviewing their notes on your project. With respect to taking the notes, generally the guideline is that if you receive the same note about one aspect of your script from different readers, there is something you should address there. You're always welcome to reach out to me at j.mirch@stage32.com and I can help you take the next steps.
