I’m currently writing a novel while adapting the story to a movie script. Walking and chewing gum at the same time scenario. But, I love dialogue, so it’s fun.
Hi Mary Rice - love the process. I started out writing novels and made the leap to screenwriter a few years back. Loving it. What genre is it? All the best to you!
I usually write mysteries, but this is a book/film set in the 1940s to 1960s. Kind of a long story, but I met someone with a colorful history, and we started talking…
I definitely do this as well. It's a great way to be extra generative. In this day and age I think prose and film are always in conversation so it makes sense to co create them. What's your genre?
That’s awesome, Mary Rice! You should share updates with us in the Authoring Lounge, to let us know how you‘re progressing with both your novel and the adaptation! I‘m currently writing a book as well and I’d love to know more about what stage you’re at and what you’re learning along the way. =) You can find the authoring lounge here: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/playwriting
Kaye, my current project is historical fiction inspired by a true story. But I have a YA book series that wrote several years ago that I plan to tackle as screenplays after I’m finished with this project.
My name gets autocorrected all the time. Usually Jane though. First time I've been a Kaye! I read a lot of YA, not as much Historical Fiction. Did you end up publishing the series?

Mary Rice I worked a similar way on my first novel. The screenplay ended up being an extended outline for the novel.
