Hi good people! What helps you to stop procrastinating? How do you push yourself? For me other than actual deadlines it’s a question “what did you do today to be closer to your goal?”. Works wonders.
thanks Maurice VaughanMatthew Kelcourse and Dan Guardino ! I don’t have this often either, as writing is my happy place. But sometimes I find it hard to make myself write if I am not in high spirits. Gotta be happy to create
Good habit forming. James Clear's book Atomic Habits has a ton of great ways to make systems in your life to help make tasks manageable and keep yourself progressing in the direction you want.
Ewan Dunbar the habit tip is really useful indeed. For now I write any free minute I have. but to just have an hour a day habit at certain time would be good too
If I feel bogged down, or if I'm procrastinating, I know I'm not centered. I'm either dwelling on the past or worrying about the future, and not fully present. Ever notice how kids don't do this? They just play - all their attention in the present. A playful attitude, i.e., writing without judging, letting everything be OK for the moment, even making myself laugh, usually gets me going.
thank you a lot Robin Gregory . What you’ve described is really close to what I often experience. sometimes it works to be in the moment, sometimes I find it hard though. Nice catch about kids. True.
For me, writing is a hobby. I'm retired and I do it because I love it. I don't push myself at all. If I'm not feeling it, I don't write that day. Once I lock into a fun story, it writes itself. The words just pour out. Sometimes that takes a long time to happen. Ideas need to germinate, ruminate, bounce off your friends, endure criticism - mostly my own. Once you latch onto one, the magic just happens. At least for me.

Deadlines, working on projects that excite me, and making myself write help me fight procrastination, Mariia Rudenko.

I write at the same time every day and make sure I have no distractions. Some days are more productive than others but I always put in the time.

Structure and discipline. Just sit down and start, and then after a while you realize that you can't stop.

I like your attitude, David Paulsen! It's pretty much the way I get things done, too.
