Emily Blunt Calls AI Actress Tilly Norwood ‘Really Scary' and Warns Hollywood Agencies: ‘Don't Do That'

The Future?

Emily Blunt had not heard the news when she sat down for an upcoming episode of the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast this week. Stopping by the studio ahead of the Los Angeles premiere of A24's "The Smashing Machine" on Monday night, the Oscar-nominated actor was handed a fresh headline: an AI-generated actress named Tilly Norwood had been unveiled over the weekend and was already drawing interest from talent agents.

I posted an article about this yesterday Mark Films. According to Deadline, agencies are not just pursuing this but studios are "quietly" developing AI for use.

I hope it's not the future, Mark Films! I'm glad big celebrities, companies, governments, organizations, and people inside and outside of the industry are talking about this and against it!

It's about entertainment, but it's also about connection. Like Whoopi Goldberg said, "People talk about people are so lonely they don’t have a connection, if you stick with this, with AI, you won’t have any connection to anything but your phone." A-listers appear to have priced themselves out of the market making it financially feasible for some talented folk to enter the void by making their own characters. I expect to see a lot of hand wringing and hear a lot of shouting. But I congratulate fine Artisans for their work (Screenwriters, Directors, DPs, Editors, Caracter builders et al).

Kevin Hager

I saw some similar articles, but are depending too much on AI? How far can we go with AI?

Michael Reeves

It's a fascinating but slippery slope. AI like Tilly Norwood might be impressive tech-wise, but if we start replacing real actors—especially for emotional, human roles—what are we really gaining, and what are we losing? I think we need guardrails, not just excitement.

Zackary Goncz

I will say, AI kind of sucks. What it makes is bad. But that doesn't seem to be holding it back that much oddly enough

Mark Films

Question: If they can do this with Actors, What About Writers?

Mark Films

No need for Producers or Directors and the hundreds or thousands to create a feature film? Just an Ai Geek and a great Concept?

The use of AI 'actresses' is morally bankrupt. From a creative output perspective alone, the inability of these digital constructs to consent or negotiate removes all essential checks and balances. This creates an environment ripe for the unchecked production of graphic, degrading, and exploitative content. While job displacement is a separate issue, the ethical void this technology creates for content generation is profoundly dangerous

Hannah Woolmer

Mark Films I heard someone that works in AI say on the radio yesterday 'If you can do your job remotely, then it can be done by AI' - I'm a film composer, I did not like that statement

Debbie Croysdale

AI searches for patterns & is limited by its own training model. AI lacks human emotion & lived experiences. There will be inherent bias, or certain areas of inclusion or void, based on each programmers own mindset. Actors that are AI don’t bother me anymore than a Tamagotchi did as a child. They are there. We have the power of free thought. Many artists fear AI but only big guns in the industry seem to have power to prevent it. Disney, pissed off by Mid journey, decided to sue. I’m not in USA but be interested to hear your thoughts. Will their law suit bring about new “Fair Use” of AI laws? OR will the machine win? Fingers crossed it’s the former.

Kevin Hager

I also found out that Zelda Williams is petitioning against AI following images of her late father, I would like to support as I am wondering how far we are going with AI, and is it too far?

Talus Night

All the AI players should have put up guardrails for AI before releasing it into the wild. Now a Pandora's box, and only time will tell what good and bad will eventually come from this. Scary

Philip Sedgwick

Love it when Emily is blunt.
