Introduce Yourself : Reintroducing myself~ by Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Reintroducing myself~

Hello, everyone~ I'm Banafsheh, also known as Bana. I'm a novelist, newbie screenwriter, sometimes comic artist and writer, probably future director/auteur based in Vancouver, BC, as well as moderator for the Animation and Transmedia Lounges.

I'm currently writing a social-satire-turned-romantic-comedy-with-umami Lunar Window while resting my brain for my sci-fi-music-Greek-mytholoy-infused-adventure series Finding Elpis. Little by little hoping to get my stuff out there~

You'll likely see me geeking out about anime and Japanese media as a whole often haha. Nice to meet you all!

Maurice Vaughan

Hi, Banafsheh Esmailzadeh. Hope you're having a great day! What's your favorite Japanese movie/one of your favorites?

Juliana Philippi

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh Hey Hey!!! Nice to re-meet you, lol. Future director in the house!

Meriem Bouziani

Hello Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Nice to meet you too. I love your journey, so much things and interests.

I wish you the best of luck with your current and future projects.

Have a great week and a wonderful holiday.”

Geoffroy Faugerolas

Always good to connect Bana and to see you in the Writers' Room event! I'm rooting for you to direct next!

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Thank you, everyone~

Maurice Vaughan I think my favourite would have to be Train_Man/Densha Otoko. Based on a true story where a geeky guy rescues a beautiful woman on the train from a drunkard and begins a relationship with her, aided by his online forum friends.

Juliana Philippi Nice to re-meet you, too hehe! Hopefully I'll be a good director~

Meriem Bouziani thanks so much, I'll keep working hard~ happy Christmas~

Geoffroy Faugerolas thank you so much, it's great talking to you as well :) I'll study up as best I can to become a good director~

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Banafsheh Esmailzadeh. I'll check out Train_Man/Densha Otoko. My favorite Japanese movie is Godzilla Minus One. Did you see it?

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Nice Maurice Vaughan. I actually haven't seen a single Godzilla movie lol (as far as I know. Might've watched a bit when I was a kid but for the life of me I can't remember it), but I did watch Godzilla x King Kong with my boyfriend so I would like to watch Godzilla Minus One someday.

Maurice Vaughan

WHAT, Banafsheh Esmailzadeh!? Just kidding. Godzilla Minus One is my favorite Godzilla movie too. I think you'll like the movies. I haven't seen all of them, mainly the older ones. There's an animated series too (1998). I watched it growing up. And there's a movie called Rampage that's based off a video game. It reminds me of the Godzilla movies.

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Nice Maurice Vaughan, thanks for the recommendations :) I'm hilariously sheltered when it comes to pop culture, you probably don't want to know what I haven't seen xD little by little I'll catch up lol

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Meriem Bouziani. I might check out the first episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion tonight.

Amanda Toney

So great to have you here Bana! Since you have comedy infused in what you write I wanted to recommend a really great comedy webinar that you might find helpful! https://www.stage32.com/education/products/how-to-punch-up-the-comedy-in...

Haley Mary

Welcome, Banafsheh! A Greek mythology adventure sounds amazing! What are your favorite Greek myths and do they inspire any of your work?

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Good stuff Maurice Vaughan, let me know what you think of it!

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Thanks so much Amanda Toney, I’ll check it out :D

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Thanks so much Haley Mary! My favourite myths are Orpheus and Eurydice, Persephone, and of course Pandora’s box. In Finding Elpis I’ve made extensive use of the first and last, so far I haven’t implemented Persephone. I’m also a fan of the topography of Hell which is of course an important setting as well in the story.

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Thank you Sydney S, glad to be here~

Dwayne Williams 2

Happy holidays, Banafsheh Esmailzadeh! It’s great to have you in the Transmedia Lounge, and your mix of projects sounds tremendously fun and ambitious. I love anime too, What are your top favorite anime creatures of all time?

Sebastian Tudores

wonderful to have you as a colleague on the platform Banafsheh Esmailzadeh - wishing you great success in 2026! cheers

Elle Bolan

Hey Bana! It always makes me smile when I see your posts. Your energy is so infectious.

Cyrus Sales

Hey Banafsheh Esmailzadeh, great to see you here. We’ve connected several times in the Animation Lounge, but I wanted to stop by on this post and say hi properly. Lunar Window sounds like a really fun mix, and Finding Elpis has such a cool, layered concept. Always enjoy your anime and Japanese media takes too. Nice to connect again and looking forward to seeing more of what you put out.

Kirsty Louise Joyce

Hi Banafsheh Esmailzadeh! Lovely to connect with you on here and I must say I am intrigued by your "sci-fi-music-Greek-mythology-infused-adventure series" (I love a bit of Greek myth!)

Juliana Philippi

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh Hi Bana!!! SO nice to have connected with you, keep going, you're inspiring to me, and I wish you an amazing New Year!

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Thank you, everyone~

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Thanks so much Dwayne Williams 2, and I'm glad to be there alongside you :) Top favourite anime creatures... I will always adore Kero-chan/Cerberus from Cardcaptor Sakura, as well as Luna from Sailor Moon, and of course Pikachu :) how about yours?

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Thank you, Sebastian Tudores, great to have you as a colleague as well, and hope your 2026 is full of success, too!

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Thank you so much Elle Bolan, that makes me really happy. I'll try to post more~

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Hello Cyrus Sales, and thank you so much :D I'm glad you think so, both projects are me having fun and doing what I do best (lots of layers and depth), challenging me in their own ways as well (I'm 99% sure I'll never write another character like John rofl). I'll work hard in 2026 to get more of my stuff written out and shared~

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Great to meet you as well, Kirsty Louise Joyce, and thanks so much! I love Greek mythology, too, and it was a natural choice for Finding Elpis's core lifeblood because there's so much to work with. I also like how back in high school my favourite English teacher said that fate is even above the gods in terms of power which really gave me some neat ideas for the series, too :D I love stories and legends from Christianity, too, which also serves as a lifeblood of the series (and the one I'm planning on leaning into more in the second half).

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Thank you so much Juliana Philippi, I'm glad I met you as well :D Happy Christmas and New Year~

Maria Caeiro

Hi, Banafsheh Esmailzadeh Your projects are trully interesting, Congratulations. I wih you a Hppy Holiday Season and an excellent 2026.

Richard "RB" Botto

Always great to see you, Banafsheh Esmailzadeh. Congratulations on the WIP. Sounds quite intriguing.

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Thank you so much Maria Caeiro, hope you also have a Happy Christmas and New Year :)

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Thank you so much Richard "RB" Botto, I’m glad you think so and that I finally started writing it hehe. It’s deviated a bit from its initial premise but it’s definitely better now and I’m excited to share it when it’s ready :)

Ryan Wilford

Hi! Banafsheh Esmailzadeh I love the mixture of genres you're working with. Nice to meet you. Good luck on your current projects and getting them out there!

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Thank you so much Ryan Wilford for your kind words, and it’s lovely to meet you too! I’ll do my best!

Banafsheh Esmailzadeh

Thank you so much Brandy Camille, I love working with you as well. I definitely will do my best to get my stuff done and out there~

Dwayne Williams 2

Thank you for sharing, Banafsheh Esmailzadeh. My favorite from your list is definitely Pikachu :D, such a timeless character. For me, I’ve always loved the Spirit Beasts from Avatar, Obelisk from Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Nurarihyon from Gantz.

Morteza Asemani

Hello Banafsheh

I want to get to know you and your work better. I think you are Iranian like me and maybe we can have some common cultural experiences. Good luck.
