So I'm trying to put that behind me, expunge the whole experience from my memory and do what the discussion board is actually for- starting a discussion. So, with that in mind, what do we feel about the 'death' of celluloid? and the virus like birth of digital? Will it REALLY change how we view feature films, film them and, obviously, edit them. Is it a good thing or a bad thing? I'm torn. I understand it's technically 'better' to film in digital, but the old school romantic in me really likes the idea of 'proper' film. Thoughts? And God help me if I've stuffed it up again, you may never hear another word out of me for the next fifty years!
Gary, I can't figure out why you're apologizing. If you posted something which didn't interest people, it's not a 'death penalty' case. They'll just ignore it. (Assuming you were brief), no harm, no f...

(Assuming you were brief), no harm, no foul. As for digital replacing film, frankly, I don't find it to be a big deal in terms of the quality of story telling rendered. As with the history of photography, it isn't so much the changes in technology but what individual images a particular photographer chose to capture. Did those images move people who looked at them? And did the particular photographer take advantage of the new technology to capture the images in superior fashion? To paraphrase a line from 'Field of Dreams', 'If you tell it (well), they will come.'
Film forces stops you from being lazy. Digital has just shifted where your budget is placed--from in front of the lens to post production hack fix-its. Put as much as you can of your budget in front of the camera is my recommendation to all and ensure you plan, plan, plan! your production.
And in fact, I would add, have A, B, C, and D plans ready.
Thank you for the invitatio, Beverly. I love the name of your company! Who wouldn't want to work with a company like that?
YOU ARE VERY WELCOME MICHELLE AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR KIND WORDS.....

Expand postHello everyone! On July 27th, I am taking my mother who has breast cancer and refuses traditional western treatments from Los Angeles, California to Tena, Ecuador to be treated by an Incan descended Yachak (plant medicine curandero) for 30 days. She is in great spirits and in every other way healthy and full of energy. She's fun to be around and never complains though she will speak her mind. The shaman is well respected in Congress and at the University in Quito. I worked with him before and lived there with the family (in a tent on the land) for a few months. I am an American Film Institute graduate, writer, playwright and author. Three days every month for over three years I facilitate an Alternatives to Violence Project workshop at a local prison. I also facilitate AVP mini sessions at Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles. I am also a volunteer member and on-call manager with the L.A. Mayor's Crisis Response Team. I've been a Tibetan Buddhism (Vajrayana in the Drikung kagyu tradition) for eight years. I do not have the resources to hire and pay a professional. I can contribute a large portion of airfare and equipment we can carry on our backs. I'm looking for someone who is very interested in going to the Amazon and working with an incredible Shaman either for medical, spiritual, mental or addiction reasons. There would be a few ceremonies working with Ayahuasca and other plants he sees fit to treat you with. Also, it requires sensitivity and a wisdom based brilliance, having eyes wide open and knowing when and in what manner to capture precious moments. I'm looking for technical prowess, courage, ambition and drive but able to chill. And it must all be accomplished with the pack on your back and little else. I posted in jobs but it isn't necessarily a job though full credit will be given for any contribution. I'm looking for that person who was in as soon as they read the title. You know if this is for you an amazing opportunity. Departing Los Angeles the 27th of July and returning the 3rd of September. If only available for two of those weeks, please let me know.

Great concept. I love it because I'm a writer and an artist. I'm sure you can pull it off.

Expand commentThanks for your positive responses. Ben, I'd like to create a series of stories that inspire people. When I started my gallery I had noticed, as an artist and an art lover, that the experience of visiting many galleries left me feeling 'small'. I set out to challenge this when I started my gallery and focused a lot of attention on ensuring people left taller than when they came in. The films need to do the same. I'm imagining telling stories about the artists I represent to share what we love about them, and leave the audience uplifted by the story, and inspired. That's a bit vague I know, I'd love to chat some more

Expand commentHi Tamzin. Im guessing its almost like a documentary, but more EPK of an artists work..well, something like that, but on film, which Id love to help create. Would you consider a young person to give it a try? Im a published author, and I make and edit my own short films for my youth film club I started. Im also very good with posters and anything on a pc that is creative. I love learning, and I have free time during the 3 weeks school holiday, and some weekends. I live in Cape Town, close to Canal Walk. Let me know if you would like to discuss with me. Thank you. :) Kimi
