Truer words ne'er spoke. Okay, typed. I was enormously amused when Destry Spielberg - who recently made a movie with Hopper Penn written by Owen King (all the children of who you think they might be) - claimed that she got no special consideration because of her heritage and had to work just as hard as everyone else. No one is more blind to their own privilege than the Hollywood aristocracy..

It reminds me of the old story of two young fish swimming along when an older fish, swimming the other way, says, "Water's nice today, eh, boys?" One of the young fish turns to the other and asks, "What's water?"

Very enjoyable read. No surprise that you did well in screenplay contests -- your writing is entertaining and enlightening. Though I wonder if some screenplay contests, when they are linked to other revenue-generating activities like pitch sessions, may sometimes be marketing strategies in disguise. I met one "industry professional" who got hired to hear pitches from starstruck writers from afar. This "award-winning-critically acclaimed-independent-motion-picture-producer" sleeps in his car! In California, it is illegal to charge actors money for auditions. But we writers pay people to read our work and hear our pitches. There must be a better way...

I've gotten to the point where executives claim to "Love" my pilot, and have provided valuable insight to polish what I have for the next step. The next step - after reading your article, I am pumped to explore alternative means to "See" my project come to fruition - despite the mind numbing, limb breaking fear that's possessing me.

I just watched the trailer for Incompleteness and it is fantastic.

A very inspiring read filled with honest truths that are sometimes hard to accept, but David dug deep, saw the humor and found a way to be true to his passion. I admire that in a person. Good luck, David! (And from a fellow Midwesterner who frequently visits Minneapolis, I think Minnesota is pretty great!)

Thank you for sharing your experiences and humor. (My favorite part: "Or you could hire a hooker.") You're right about being pulled out of a story when you recognize big name talent. I create diverse roles in my screenplays. At this point I'm not expecting big name talent and who knows--maybe someone will be 'discovered' along the way.

I wrote and directed the first season of a short-form series titled, INCOMPLETENESS, that has won over 30 awards for Best Series on the international fest circuit. I have a sales agent that will be pitching the series to the major streamers, including development of Season 2, which I've already written.

At this point, we are looking for an established Exec Producer / Showrunner to attach who would be involved in the development of Season 2. If you have experience in this area and may be interested in this project or know someone that might be ... please let me know!
