I've developed a business plan and pitch deck, I've attached a lead actress and another producer, and I'm talking with several candidates for director and casting director. I've contacted a line producer here on Stage32 that we'll use for scheduling & budgeting. Now comes the fun part -- the search for financing.

The hardest for me is when a bigger project has just finished and there is no next project yet.
So what I've figured out for myself is that I then find myself doing lots of smaller stuff and I intentionally leave myself work that I can finish later in smaller chucks so that when I'm doing one thing and I get stuck or don't feel creative in that area I go and do something less creative and more technical for a while and when I get stuck there I go to another creative thing maybe a little easier than the first. Then I just alternate between things.
I still find myself stuck and not being able to do anything much but that's just an indication it's time to do some housework or make dinner. Then I get creative again pretty quickly.
The funny thing is lots of people say that being a jack of all trades means you're a master of none. But I tend to disagree because learning new things and being able to do a variety of different things just means you can always find something to work on and if you can't you can learn something new or improve a skill you already have.

For my part, I optioned a New York Times best seller and worked to turn it into a feature film. It's a baseball project, which are always tough to do. But the story is fantastic!

Expand commentI optioned a Sci-Fi novel "Sigmet Active" from the author and have teamed with a talented new writer to co-write the pilot for a series called "SkyFire." The logline is up on Stage 32. I have been on the hunt for an agent or manager to get it in front of the right people (producers or prodco's). After querying 60 I have gotten one read. So I am going in a new direction - entered into 7 highly ranked screenplay competitions. The first time out the script reached Semi-finalist in Screencraft Pilot Competition. Also starting to contact entertainment law firms that package...like Brandon Blake of Stage 32. Paying their fee may be about equal to paying for pitches and contests. We'll see!
Dan M; ballpark figures today range from $0 to $1.
In my case, my author has written half a dozen novels and I felt that a no-money option was a little demeaning, or that I wasn't really serious. So I paid $200 upon signing a one-year option, and $1300 payable at the end of the year --if I continued the option. Which I did.
This is truly inspiring! Big congrats to Danielle on this meeting. I look forward to these posts. Fuels me so much to keep going. Definitely a Monday motivation. Wishes the best to you Danielle ^_^
Başarılarınızın devam etmesini canı gönülden dilerim.
Thank you, guys! I appreciate all the support!

It's been a while since I've been here. Yesterday I went to an improv acting session for the first time and was reminded of how much I still have to do to become a more proficient writer...Which led me back here! (The improv acting was a great experience though. It started in an opera studio then ended in its usual haunt - the basement of an Irish pub. Because, of course.).
I'm a New York-based screenwriter that is still very early in my journey. I've written 2 produced short films, both directed by Jeremiah Kipp, and starring Lydia Darly (A Guadaloupean actress known for her roles in Exorcist: The Beginning & The Way You Love ).
But while I'm proud of the chutzpah it took me to jump into those projects, my aspirations are much bigger; Namely, to write a full length film in the next year or 2, and hopefully get it produced.
My page on ScriptRevolution (Feel free to check out "Eval" - a short script I wrote last year): https://www.scriptrevolution.com/profiles/nadia-carmon
I've been busy working on my personal brand as a freelance marketing professional and also working for a brand as a Social Media/Marketing Specialist (Which, looking back on early film projects, would have helped immensely if I had these skills then), and so screenwriting has sort of fallen by the wayside. But it's more in an effort to not be a "Jacklyn of all trades, master of none". It's really important, and I've really come to understand the importance of not half-asking anything. It's the sort of quality I want to bring into every aspect of my life.
Once again, I hope to get back into screenwriting in the near future, but in the meantime i'm filling my mental palette with the likes of Amazon's The Expanse, Love Death & Robots, Netflix's The Punisher, Supernatural (S4), Blacklist (S1), NBC's Hannibal (Watching a second time), and more....
Başarılar dilerim.
Teşekkür ederim :)
And thanks Phil :).

Expand postMy father was Don Draper figuratively. An ad man in that exact same era but not a scoundrel. I did not fall far from the tree as some of you know my career was marketing films -- and I use those selling techniques when writing a script. I've won several Hollywood Reporter Key Art awards. In one such ceremony Clint Eastwood said "The poster sells the movie." Of course one should not write a screenplay as a commercial but yet, this was a fantastic article to illustrate why it's good to keep that in mind. Too often, when I read first-time writer's script they do not know their audience, it is often too personal. That is why screenwriting is a craft more than art. You need to appeal to as wide an audience as possible while staying true to your vision. Advertisers are well aware of their target market and how to elicit emotion. When you watch commercials, my father taught me not too fall for their tricks. For example, a perfume ad. I laugh sometimes when I see how they manipulate a woman's emotion into believing unicorns and rainbows and your perfect man will suddenly appear and you will look like the model or famous movie star the moment you spritz it on. Anyway, fantastic article.
Thank you Paul. Spot on . But as you know it's all about perception and word of mouth. And those perfume ads are quite effective :)
Merhaba..
