As a first time female filmmaker over 50 I’ve spent the last few years learning (only online must they call it lurking) from peering over the grand shoulders of others in the industry, many associated with Stage 32 and elsewhere.
I’ve been a storyteller for decades mostly as writer and actress, adding producer and director credits after the bonfire of candles started to show up on my birthday cakes.
Three of my children’s chapter books were published by a mom and pop (really a mom and mom) publisher before online and big box stores killed small publishers and independent bookstores. Self-publishing wasn’t my cup of tea, so I instead fashioned an advice column based on my drive-time radio experience ‘Afternoon T’ which is now published in a SoCal circular.
A couple of years ago I put my toe in the water of script writing and started making short films. As a lifelong actress (No, really… I went to the Strasberg school of acting while still in junior high. I’m one of those Method people), being behind the camera was a whole new kettle of fish as I was encouraged to try producing and directing, too. My production team is Tequila Mockingbird and we can be found at tmockingbird.com
My best days are the 12-16 hour ones spent in pre-production, production and post. There isn’t one element I don’t love. [Well, maybe script supervising. I’m the worst script supervisor ever.] So, I’m always looking for the next project and chance to collaborate.
As if this long-winded intro weren’t enough, an embarrassing amount of updates on projects can be found on my website AfternoonT.co
