GENRE: Sci-fi, Fantasy
LOGLINE:

300 years in the future, a mysterious mercenary and an enigmatic girl must unlock a celestial power, to stop an ancient evil from annihilating mankind.

SYNOPSIS:

300 years in the future, mankind’s on the verge of extinction. Wars, disease, and disaster have ravaged the planet. Moreover, an incurable virus has eradicated man’s ability to reproduce.

The world is now ruled by DAGON; A Corporation who ascended to supremacy on the back of their ability to produce lab-grown, artificial humans. Their society of “flawless anthropoids” are now the apex civilization. Whereas the last of ‘organic’ humanity live on the outskirts, in tribes, sects, gangs, or peaceful communities.

Then there is Kana. A preternaturally powerful mercenary, on a quest to uncover the truth about his past. To learn why his mother sacrificed herself to save his life. Why his adopted family relinquished him to a ‘Sect of Assassins’ for the sake of his safety.

It’s this quest that brings Kana to the outskirts Dagon’s biggest city: New Hallah. And while, searching for a way inside the metropolis, his plans are derailed, when he stops a gang from kidnapping an enigmatic, mute 14-year-old girl, named Alina. However, he’s wounded during the melee. So, Alina brings him back to her community receive medical assistance.

Alina’s community live abroad ‘The Intrepid’ - a decommissioned Aircraft Carrier - converted into a floating village by its current inhabitants. Which includes her scholarly guardian, Bradley. A brilliant scientist, Sofia. And Gregor, the battle-weary leader of ‘The Intrepid’.

While treating Kana, Sofia and Bradley discover he’s immune to the fertility virus. But to investigate further, they need a DNA testing machine that can only be found in New-Hallah. Given Kana’s need to get into the highly fortified city, he agrees to help Bradley retrieve this device.

While in New-Hallah, they bear witness to an emergency proclamation from Dagon’s insidious leader, Bastian. Who in turn, announces a new zero-tolerance policy toward ‘humans’, declaring they will now be incarcerated or killed, due to ‘alleged acts of aggression’ toward their so-called ‘peaceful’ society.

As for Bastian… he is not who he claims to be. Indeed, he is the reincarnation of an ancient evil who’s spent thousands of years architecting the return of the ‘Wraiths’; a primordial demonic force, lingering in the cosmos.

Bradley is the only person alive who utterly understands the horror Bastian intends to unleash on the world.

It’s because of this knowledge, Bradley uncovers a mystical connection between Kana and Alina. Something that might be the key to stopping Dagon. This discovery triggers an expedition to Kana’s homeland, which sadly ends in tragedy, when Alina is captured.

Following this, Kana and the others mount a desperate mission to rescue Alina and prevent Bastian from opening a gateway that will allow the corporeal Wraiths to possess Dagon’s ‘fit-to-purpose’ anthropoids.

Only Kana and Alina can stop Bastian. And to do so, Kana must surrender his soul to an age-old seraphic force with the ability to protect humankind. Yet that sacrifice depends on Alina, for only she can summon this guardian spirit. They’re the last line of defense. For, only their belief in each other and faith in a transcendent celestial power, will save humanity from complete annihilation.

The quality of your logline doesn't reflec the quality of your lscreenplay. . I read the screenplay. It's good! A few formatting issues and view typos, but easy to fix. Your biggest problem is your use of numbers, and the fact that one of your anteg. top dogs committed suicide on 23 May 1945. Did he rise from the dead?

Rutger Oosterhoff hi. thanks for giving it a read, Rutger. Yes, I am very aware of Himmler's history. But, given that this is a fantasy story. I think it is strongly implied how he is still alive. Without actually having to spell it out. Sadly though, you make a really interesting point. The majority of movie-watching audiences today, wouldn't actually know off the top of their heads what happened to the guy. So, nice job spotting that!! Yes, I do fart about with numbers and formatting. But to be honest, if you speak to the folks who actually make films... they generally don't notice if something is slightly off, in terms of formatting. Us screenwriters get way too caught up on stuff like that, I believe. First and foremost, is to try and write the best story we can, to the best of our ability. If someone decides that aren't interested in our story, because of the aforementioned reasons, then, my assumption is that the story didn't resonate. Most films that get made, typically come down to if a director or produces connects with the core narrative, and if it matches something they're looking for. They're seeking the 'big' idea. The rest is window dressing, in my humble opinion -- which matters much more to competitions and readers, than it does to the actual people you are trying to reach. Rules are great, and I do try my best to stay within the guidelines. But I do occasionally drift... more by accident, than design, mind you. As for typos... yes, that shit needs to be cleaned up. My dumb dyslexic ass can read something five times and still not pick up on a mistake. I've actually been working on a polish this past week. Thank you again for giving it a read. And for the feedback. That's both generous and incredibly kind.

Hi Jeremy,

I do agree with all of your points. I notised the Himmler thing because I had/have the same sort of problem with a holocaust screenplay I am still working on..

The typos and formatting problems are an absolute minimal; Fixed in a sec.

I give you my notes if you like to.

Best,

Rutger

Very freaking cool, Jeremy! Did you originally pen this as a video game concept, because it has a lot of 'Fallout' meets 'KOTOR' type elements to it. Really great synopsis! Lots of high-end stakes and personal conundrums revolving around the main cast. Excellent work!

J.B. Storey

Frank Baruch Thanks for the kind remarks. No, it was not written as a video game. Was actually a short story I wrote many years ago. Then, adapted it into a screenplay last year. Written more as a portfolio piece. As I know something like this is very unlikely to be made. Wayyyy too expensive.

Good logline and a clear genre/tone is implied along with the main characters. It feels like it just has one too many adjectives is all.
