Acting : Temp agencies by Christopher Pornovets

Temp agencies

This may be offtopic for the group , but what type of temp agencies usually hire actors with little to no experience in NYC ???? I am planning on going to some tomorrow and see what would happen, but do not know where to start.

Leah Surette

Try looking for casting calls for extras. You will get the experience you need eventually

Jorge J Prieto

Grant Wilfley Casting. www.gwcinyc.com mostly for extra work.

Christopher Pornovets

im trying not to be an extra . it does not give experience as an actor and people are lying if they are saying it . I am looking for actual work so I can focus more on principal roles.

Shawn Speake

Hey, Christopher. I'm Shawn Speake. Being an extra does give experience. I've went from being an extra to feature extra to leads in independent films. I also made connections on those sets and pitched scripts to directors. I'm finishing a feature now for TJ Scott, Tech Nine, and Rachel Royale. I've also written myself a role in the film. That being said, I don't do extra work anymore. But I did it to get where I'm going.... Try your local Facebook actors groups and filmmaking groups. They're huge in Colorado. We're only as strong as our network. Hope this helps, bro.

wow....

Define "featured extra"?

Shawn Speake

A "background" extra is not part of the scene. They are walking set pieces, not recognizable, maybe not even in focus. A "featured" extra is part of the scene. In focus. You see them clearly....In one episode of LONGMIRE, I play a dopedealer at the bar who stares the sheriff down as he enters. I make 'WALT' Robert Taylor walk around me. We were the only two moving. Everyone else is still.

Shawn Speake

In this episode of LONGMIRE, I play a cult member. The difference in the extras and myself in this scene is the crew moved me front row courtroom and I had to stand, laugh and play along with Peter Stormare. It was on this day the crew started calling me 'the guy with the distinguished face'. I still don't know how I feel about that. but whatever works, right :)

Shawn Speake

Those were in 2016. In January, I had successful pitches in Hollywood for one of my ideas for a script, came back to Denver, told my connect, from S32, that I didn't have time to do extra work this year, unless it was big, because of the writing assignment. Hangin' with Gil was big for me!

Shawn Speake

My point here is we get what we see. Some creatives see extra work as nothing. I see it as a chance to associate with other hungry actors/talented creatives like myself. I see it as a chance to hang with heavy hitters. I see it as a challenge to take a small role and turn it into something bigger. I see as an opportunity to pitch my scripts to big time directors. "Take the red pill" and see the Matrix from a diff POV. Hope this helps

Dan MaxXx

right on Shawn Speake! i would do Extra work just to be on a union set and watch Union crews work, get to know the cameras, lighting, and learn filmmaking.

Craig L Trumbo

All of them comments are excellent insight for me thanks for sharing. I hope both connect wuth me please...Blessing's

Holy Crap! I was a "featured extra" on Ed for two seasons and didn't even realize it. And also one in the film: Never Again. Damn....

Shawn Speake

My man, MaxXx! Wanted to let u know I took your feedback to heart, did another edit/polish pass. You were right. It was top heavy. Thank u, brother. I'll be posting the new ten this week. My Man
