I read a few articles that mention a rumor about Coverfly shutting down on 8/1/25. Does anyone know if this is true?
This would be heart-breaking. Regardless of how seriously it’s taken, this was a great way to enter contests and network and I don’t even want to talk about what I spent on there to build a portfolio. I’ve checked it everyday for years and thought it had so much potential to keep growing as a website and a business.
It feels like options for writers outside of Los Angeles are getting even tougher to find. I wouldn’t say I’m panicking but hearing stuff like this makes me very nervous. Not all of us can get to Los Angeles all the time but we still have great ideas and those ideas deserve their shot too.
Anybody hear anything about this and know what’s next for writers trying to break in?

Hey, Danny Range. I saw Michael Elliott comment "Coverfly is closing August 1, 2025" on another post a little while ago. As for what’s next for writers trying to break in, I think they should build up their portfolios, network, learn about other areas of the industry, pitch, and apply for jobs. I also think producing is a smart move (movie, show, podcast, etc.).

Maurice Vaughan I saw somebody on Twitter with a smartass remark "Oh, now we won't have to pay 20-year-old interns for advice."
I had an inkling that this was happening on there. I mean you get notes from these sites anonymously. How are you supposed to know if it's from a legitimate source? You don't. That's like opening a blank paper Peanut Butter cup and the guy swears it's Reese's, then gets mad at you when you realize it's a ghetto ass, small town made peanut butter cup and you say something about it.
Hopefully they're combining these sites in a way. The big dog comes in, buys them all out, and makes something "new" AKA a combined idea from all he bought...that's business and it happens in any industry. A "buyout." I hope that is happening...
It's depressing, though. Stage32 and Coverfly are the only way I've been able to make some sort of claim to my work to try and network. I mean I can't say it any other way than the truth which is that this industry seems to try and keep new people away, then it looks around and wonders why it's rapidly dying. That's really how it feels to me in my five years trying to meet people.
It's like they're annoyed we have the audacity to try.
I'm not going anywhere. I will tell you that much. They can try to discourage hopefuls as much as they want or make whatever barrier they want. I will find it, I will find how it works, and I will break it down.
I put too much into this shit to let it break me, so I won't.
But they do a great job of discouraging you I will admit to that. Every year it's like a new stomach punch announcement comes. It makes me extremely upset as somebody who genuinely just loves movies.

I didn't use Coverfly that much, Danny Range, so I don't how things were run besides what people told me, but hopefully someone buys it and makes it something new that helps creatives. I mainly network, pitch, and get jobs on Stage 32. Keep networking and pitching on here, and I'm sure they'll lead to success.

Hey Danny Range, I think Coverfly has a great concept, but it definitely needs some refinements. The way it operates could easily be replicated on other sites or apps. In my experience as a new writer, the feedback system became counterproductive—I struggled to find meaningful notes and nearly quit before I even got started. It wasn’t until I shifted over to Stage32 that I started getting the kind of insight I actually needed.

Yes, it is official. Very sad.

Dwayne Williams Same, man. I used their notes, and they all said I sucked then I won a 1,300-script contest with the same script and stopped using their notes. But without it I'm down to this, too, and what if they just decide to not pick you on here? That's my point of stress. I just wish there were more clear-cut ways to weed people out. Somebody could be sitting in LA right now hoping for a project just like mine but I'm sitting here because I don't know where or how to meet them. That's very tough to sit with. If I wasn't getting feedback on all my potential then I wouldn't care, but I am, and I don't know how to make the right people notice.

Dawn Greenfield Ireland (DE Greenfield) Then let's go break down some doors, Dawn (joking). You and me. I'm one more announcement I don't like away from letting my ghetto Youngstown side out. I see you're from Ireland and don't know where that is but it's a very tiny, crazy place in America where people don't take other people's shit.

Danny Range It's true and now it's official. It's sad for writers. But there's a silver lining.
I've spent the last 5 years as a senior manager of development at Industry Arts (Coverfly/WeScreenplay/ScreenCraft/Launch Pad…) connecting screenwriters with industry opportunities, helping unrepresented writers break in, and bringing transparency to a notoriously opaque industry. I personally helped thousands of writers navigate the industry and helped facilitate hundreds of writer-industry connections, playing a key role in creating opportunities for over 800 writers and scouting specs for thousands of companies including "I Am Not Alone," the record-breaking short story sold to Netflix.
This is why I joined Stage 32. To continue and expand on our mission to support creators from around the world. It is my mission to lead our writer advocacy and industry outreach efforts. Supported by a wonderful team of passionate executives, we will be tasked with providing customized career guidance to members of our community, and create meaningful opportunities for our community including open writing assignments, pitch fests, webinars, mentorships…you name it. I'll be personally heading our writer development program for Writers' Room members. I'm excited to say we're creating a program for members that will be closest thing to being represented without having a manager or agent.

Geoffroy Faugerolas Idk whether to be nice to you or not because you could be one of the people who said my script sucks and still took my money. I'm kidding. Glad to hear you found new work somewhere you like.
This website has an opportunity to jump up and stand right next to The Blacklist if they work it right. I hope that program is the thing people like me need and it helps the company take off. Because right now I'm just sending queries to people I've never met who don't even read the shit and don't know where to go next.

My job was to help writers and now i'm lucky to be doing the same thing here, at Stage 32. Part of my entire philosophy is hyper-focused and targeted outreach. Querying can be part of an outreach strategy but it shouldn't be the only tool in your arsenal. Success rate tends to be low unless you're working off great intel. I know this industry works in mysterious ways but we'll help. It's a journey. And we're here along the way.

Geoffroy Faugerolas Trust me, I DO NOT want querying to be my arsenal. I can't even take myself seriously sending them anymore.
And I will take all the help I can get! I want it the most and I'm going to keep screaming it until the right person sees that I am for real. That's a final decision, not an idea.
Every site deleted, every opportunity taken away, every dime I spent that was a waste...it will only motivate me more.
I'm going to get this Pilot made legitimately, and that's it.

Danny Range It wasn't a waste. Every no gets you closer to the yes. it's not cheesy, it's true. Every new draft, every re-write is how you better you craft, hone in on your personal pitch and you're better for it. But you don't need to keep screaming, ahah. Not if no one's listening. Let's work together to get people to pay attention. You want reps, producers and execs to find you. This is what we're doing. Think of us as matchmakers. We talk to thousands of industry professionals every month so that we can lift the veil on what's happening behind closed doors and bring opportunities to your doorstop. Not every opportunity is going to be a good fit but it only takes one yes.

Geoffroy Faugerolas Ok. When people want Drama TV, I'm right here! I'm ready to pitch every day. I have more, too, but that project is my focus. And sorry, but I have to keep screaming. I'm Italian American and that's how we talk--REAL LOUD AND WITH HAND GESTURES.

Danny Range, I'm not from Ireland. That's my last name :-) I've tried to give it up and revert back to my maiden/family name (Greenfield), but 90% of my work shows Ireland as my last name, so...

Dawn Greenfield Ireland (DE Greenfield) Danny Range isn't my name, either, and everybody gets confused about my stage name, so I feel your pain! Everywhere I enter "Are you Derrick or Danny? Oh, well why didn't you say so?"
You'd think more people would get it since stage names were literally invented by this industry...but I guess not...
