Not selling you a thing. Promise. Unless you need a service from us? Hey, how is it I do not see any posts about the Art Department and all it's subdepartments? Construction, Make-Up & Special Effects, Model Shop, Props, Costumes, etc. Are there any Art Department Artists, Craftspeople; Sculptors, Technicians or Mechanical Effects Designers out there here on Stage 32? Especially in New Jersey, Philadelphia, New York? Our effects company division Imagination Workshop Studio is located in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. That's an interesting/valid question and the fact that you see no/few posts about it is pretty much your answer. It's called lack of demand. Most of the folk in these forums envision themselves as famous writers or directors. It's hard for them to get past the fantasy and realize all the hard work that filmmaking is - I'd bet that few of 'em even know about the Art Department.

I concur, although I just assumed that most of them were too busy on the battlefield but come to think of it I’ve not seen a single one.

There's a bit of truth in both of your responses. Howdy, good to meet you both here. And while I'm no stranger to this business, I know and would be the first to admit I am not famous or a #MasterofCinema. Yet... There's always room enough to learn something new, right?

The other truth is, unfortunately, that day players, journeymen, or freelancers in the below-the-line arena are always looking for work, that's if they were not referred to the next job by their associates on the last gig they were on. So who's ear do we tug on here at Stage32 to implement a category or section for the good folks in Art Departments all across the world?
Tom, true & true. Happy tugging but don't hold your breath.
I don't have the time to champion something like that really. But it was a good idea.
Well, I agree with you partially, Damian. Things in life aren't always black and white, especially in these times. It's however filmmakers can get the capital and from whoever, by whatever means in their reach. Here's a picture of ours, just one of twelve intellectual properties in development being prepared for Packaging for Investment for Producing and Distribution. DreamFactory Entertainment's Story Department has been working on it for three years now and just changed it's title but has it confidential only on the script cover, from a working title of "LUNCH" now https://slated.com/films/204858/
And here is the movie's website on social media Facebook https://Facebook.com/lunchthemovie

Hey Damian, how is business in Vancouver? Love it there, always wanted to visit. The X-Files was filmed there in that territory of Canada, wasn't it? Love The X-Files. And I've got a little Canadian running in my bloodline.

So how bout it, RB? https://www.stage32.com/rb Amend or add a category for Preproduction: Art Department with all subdepartments: make-up & special effects, props, sets, costumes, etc. There is a site or Forum called RPF that does something similar but mainly spotlights replica props for collectors. I think Stage 32 would benefit from having a section for artists & designers, craftspeople such as model makers and sculptors, technicians, and set construction crew, etc. It might open up a whole new world of opportunities and possibilities not to mention profits...
You can start some!

Hi, Tom. Actually, back in 2011-12 there were additional forum sections in the Lounge relating to those areas of expertise, but they were folded into the larger, more generalized sections you see today. Anyone can, of course, post and start a thread discussion on any of those topics. They do come up in Production and/or Filmmaking/Directing. Best to you. ;)

You can recommend to Stage 32 that you would like to see those topics covered and they can provide you with the Next Steps.

You're welcome. ;) Members can send in their thoughts, ideas, and recommendations through "Contact Us" located in the bottom menu bar. Tom, perhaps a blog post featuring these areas of expertise would be possible and helpful to others. Reach out to Taylor, S32's Director of Content: https://www.stage32.com/taylorcbaker. ;)
So, are there people; Artists, Craftspeople, Technicians, in New Jersey, but also Pennsylvania and New York, that work in an Art Department and all the sub-Departments? Reach out, let's work on collaborations.

Wow, imagine that, this post is over four years old and still no Art Department posts yet, or section, or category? And why not? Because last time I looked the Art Department is still immensely critical to a production be it film, television, or commercial.
Hi, people that work for Stage 32, I come to you to ask something important, that you might be able to help? And although this conversation is roughly six years old, I would like to ask you to create a section, category or place here on Stage 32 for people who work in the Art Department. With subcategories or sections of the many different states and cities we all work in, maybe even over seas across the pond? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
