Causality story sequencing software was recently recommended to me. For those who don't know it, it's a graphic environment for story development which is very beat- and character-arc centric versus something like Final Draft which is, with the best will in the world, a glorified typewriter. I downloaded it and took a look. It appears to me potentially very powerful but also complex and might take a lot of learning (reminiscent of Adobe products). Does anyone have any experience of using Causality? Will it change my life, or even maybe help me write better? Is it worth my time learning it?

I haven’t heard of it, but it sounds similar to the programs I was researching to do notecards and outlining a few weeks ago. Right now I’m on a trial of Scrivener, which I’m considering buying.

I've no experience with Causality itself but applaud any artist who experiments with different tools to see what works best for them. Stories aren't written line by line on a blank page, that tends to be just the typing.

I often have the opposite problem that CJ Walley describes - I'm really good at using the tools, but to really get inside characters' heads and create stories driven by their desires, I often find I need to type it out, line by line, on a blank sheet of paper. If I stay too conceptual it can come out very 'tell', not 'show'.
