Coverfly is closing...make sure you transfer your accolades over to Stage 32. I will miss the Red List most of all...

Well, I just found this out today. It looks like Coverfly will be closing in August. Very sad...it was a great site...

Real Question Here: Has a single movie ever been made that appeared on the Red List?

Curt Samlaska

Michael David, that is an excellent point. Does anybody know the answer to that?

Christopher Charlton

I have the #1 Sci-fi book on the Red List and never received anything from anyone, but it was a nice way of marking progress and a small form of validation, even if it ultimately got me nothing. I guess we have to manually list our Accolades on our accounts here, or is that just kind of futile?

Curt Samlaska

I believe it is worth doing, Christopher Charlton, yes, you can add any accolade here on Stage 32. I also use FilmFreeway, which is great for entering film competitions and they automatically post any awards or accolades, but only from contests submitted through them, I believe. I'm not aware of a means to add to their list. What I also like about that site is that you can generate laurels that you can use to promote your material. I am adding them to the thumbnail for my short film trailer, Forgiving Retribution... I believe most of the logos on short film thumbnails are probably generated from this site.

One of my scripts hit The Red List but only a few months ago... wait and see I guess. I liked the ranking on Coverfly - I used this as a gauge for my own improvement. I went from 35% to 17%. I see that as me improving my writing skills overall.

Michael David I was a Senior Manager of Development at Coverfly, and my job was advocating for thousands of writers and filmmakers. More than 850 writers ended up signing with representation, getting their projects optioned, shopped, or produced. The problem with Coverfly is that there can sometimes be a disconnect between what contest readers rank highly and what the market/industry actually wants.

This is why when Stage 32 came knocking, I didn't hesitate a second. I've since joined this wonderful community as Director of Development, and my mission is to advocate for all the creatives in the community and leverage the success writers and creators have across our contests, script services, and education to be market-ready and matched with the right rep, producer, or buyer...you name it.

With the recent success of NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH, which was first discovered on Stage 32 during a pitch session, needless to say I'm beyond excited to be bringing opportunities to you all.

Stage 32 is hands down the best platform for creatives out there! What sets it apart? The community. Seriously, nowhere else do you find this level of genuine collaboration, support, and industry insight. It’s not just a networking site—it’s a real hub where writers, filmmakers, and execs engage with each other.

And with the Writers’ Room, it’s like having a front-row seat to the industry. You get to see pros break down scripts, give real-time feedback, and share insider knowledge you won’t find anywhere else. No gatekeeping, no ego, just pure creative growth.

But why has no one received any email from CoverFly about this? The only emails I got are getting new badges, so from that point of view, it doesn't seem dead at all. It's very confusing.

Curt Samlaska

You used to be able to add accolades to your projects from other sources, but they just recently removed that option. I Emailed them, I am a semi-finalist in the Emerging Screenwriter Drama competition, but they responded that they no longer allow you to request it be added. They stated that it is now up to the associated websites, ISA in my situation, to notify them of the results. This might fit in to their plans to just abandon the site. Sad.
