In A Screenplay, Every Character Should Have Their Own Dialogue by William C. Martell

William Martell

Thanks Clare! I posted the prequel to this a couple of weeks ago and it seemed to vanish from here... no idea why. https://youtu.be/7PIndJU2ZWA

LindaAnn Loschiavo

Thank you, Bill. Wonderful video from you.

Jorge J Prieto

Watched this earlier on F. C. Great advice as always from, William. Everyone should watch.

Phillip E. Hardy, "The Pro From Dover"

Good advice delivered with affable style.

Debbie Croysdale

A great snippet.

William Martell

More to come - probably talked for half an hour on dialogue alone.

Jorge J Prieto

Will be waiting, William.

Max Adams

Nice, Bill.

Brian Aldridge

Dialogue has always been the hardest part of writing for me. I really enjoyed this.

Jorge J Prieto

Brian, the dramatic writer HEARS s/his /her characters voices. So your chief task as a storyteller is simply to LISTEN. Hope this helps, but you have the final say in what works for you, buddy.

William Martell

Here are the first three segments on dialogue... http://sex-in-a-sub.blogspot.com/2015/12/film-courage-dialogue-part-1-2-...

William Martell

Film Courage deserves all of the praise. They go all over the place and interview writers and directors and actors and everyone else, and post the interview segments on YouTube. They just happened to grab me and ask me questions one day.

Jorge J Prieto

F.C.is my favorite go to channel on YouTube. The girl, Karen, is a great interviewer .

Bruce L. Stanton

Thanks Clare for posting this, I went to youtube and looked up the whole interview. Thanks you William for giving the interview, Lots of great info for beginners like me.

William Martell

There is a full interview from last year (2014) and a handful of segments from this year's interview. They put out a new segment every week or so. I did almost 2 hours this year, which may last me until next year's interview!

Jorge J Prieto

We are all very lucky to have you, William. You are a great teacher, Sir.

William Martell

There are a couple of new ones out now, but if I post them some moderator takes them down for some reason.

Beth Fox Heisinger

William, perhaps post them in "Your Stage." :) If you are posting your own videos, materials, loglines, work samples, blog posts, books, soliciting feedback, et cetera yourself within topic forums that is considered "self-promotion" and those posts are not taken down but rather are moved to "Your Stage" where all promotion is preferred to be placed. It's just the way the site is organized; topic discussion posts go here, promotion posts go there. Many members just post in the wrong place and thus they are moved. It's nothing personal. Lol! Our membership has grown to well over 600,000 members, over 80,000 of those are screenwriters, and everyone wishes to promote themselves in some way. Stage 32 prefers organic, relationship building, so anything that is "hey, look at me" or "Check out my XYZ" is moved. Posts about any personal success are moved to "Stage 32 Success Stories" or "Your Stage"—it depends. It also gets people utilizing the whole site not just "hiding" in one section. There is a method to all this wonderful madness. Lol! Perhaps someone else will post the new clips for you. That person is then "sharing content" — as Clare did by posting this clip. She's not "promoting" herself, or you, per se, but rather sharing information. ...Love your Film Courage clips, BTW. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions. :)

Jorge J Prieto

I, personally, never miss a Film Courage interview, I subscribed to it over a year ago and I do share it here from time to time.

William Martell

Beth - I have zip to do with Film Courage, they are not my videos at all. I got no pay for doing them, get nothing when people watch them (no share of ad revenue, etc). What often confuses me are the posts linked to someone's personal blog entry which aren't removed from the screenwriting section, when the personal site those links will take you to include for pay services from the poster. I do not do consulting. I am a working professional screenwriter. Clicking on the Film Courage segments just takes you to YouTube - and Film Courage's YouTube section... which I have nothing to do with. But it is a cool place to go, because they interview directors and crew people and actors and all kinds of other people in the biz.

Beth Fox Heisinger

Yeah, I know it's confusing at times, William. Actually, I do move posts from people's personal blogs. All. The. Time. Some get missed, sure. Most of my time as a moderator is volunteer based and I do have to sleep sometime. Lol! I often go back months within sections and move or remove posts. I am currently compiling a list of 'personal blog poster' offenders to pass on to management. Plus, some folks completely ignore the site's organization or they just don't take the time. I'm constantly reminding people to please post "want ads" in the Jobs section. I can't even begin to tell you how many posts I move daily and how many "spammers" I've had removed from the site. Sorry, I digress... Anyway, it's not that you are promoting Film Courage but that it is simply you posting yourself featured in some "thing" — that's self-promotion, even if that is not your intention. That goes for all of us. Personally, I love Film Courage. I try to catch as many as I can. William, I'm happy to post something for you if you would like. Please feel free to send me private messages or concerns. Please feel free to point something out to me that may have been missed. I'm here to help. We truly appreciate all your contributions to the site as many of us have learned much from you. I know I have!

Jorge J Prieto

I have to agree with, BETH. Rules are rules, every corporation has them and even my own mother had rules in our house we had to abide by or else, my brother and I will get a whipping. But, again , I watch FC on YouTube and no rules broken. We must all respect one another position and responsibility and not take it personally.

Beth Fox Heisinger

Well, I really don't like the word "rules." It's more like "structure," a way to keep this wonderful site organized rather than a free-for-all-every-man-and-woman-for-themselves mess, right? Haha! We all need to follow along, otherwise every forum would turn into self-promotion—we certainly don't want that with over 600,000 members! I suggest reading the little explanation at the top of each section; it helps to clarify the purpose of each. Anyway, my apologies for "hijacking" this thread. Again, please feel free to contact me with questions. Okay, back to the thread topic. ;)

Jorge J Prieto

Thanks, Beth mommy dearest. Lol, I loved that campy film. Happy new year my dear and thanks again for bringing for making Write Club such a huge success story for all of us here.
