I've done a couple of pitches and the feedback has opened up so miuch for me. The one from this weekend I could have kicked myself (super hard).
"Have you thought about writing them as books, wiht a platform it will help you pitch even more..." Oh my life, how could I forget to put on the pitch that the screenplay is based on my own book that hit Amazon bestseller in its categories last month.
What a fool...what a fool! :( :(

If you had of mentioned that then you may have faced the question “If it was successful as a book, why do you think it needs to be a movie?”.
Shit happens. Opportunities float by every second of the day. We don’t see most of them. When we are well prepared we see them. When our preparation always to exploit and opportunity people call us “lucky”.
Think of what you have learnt from this. That is some good preparation.

The pitch sessions are a great great learning experience, Tobey (and, certainly, a solid networking opportunity, as well). I'm so very glad that you've been finding such helpful feedback. And especially because this is so largely a learning experience, PLEASE don't beat yourself for anything pitch-related. ...Don't beat yourself up EVer, but certainly not with this.
That's a great nugget to take from the experience. And now, onto the next :)

Not to worry! This is what these sessions are for. So you are able to hone your pitch with the help of pros. I pitched something on the fly for the first time ever recently - and I received moderate praise and a polite pass - but then later I kept mulling over everything that I had intended to get into the pitch that I had left out - why the themes are relevant, why the characters are so compelling, etc. Next time the pitch will be that much stronger because I'll revise.

Pitching nerves kick in and are normal for everyone : ) Another good thing to add if you are pitching a show based on other material you have had published is how large your reader base is. This is a way of showing that there is a pre-existing audience for your show. Don't beat yourself up and look ahead to the next pitch.
