I agree, Dan MaxXx. I also use the B Story to help the protagonist reach their character arc. When I outline a script, I outline the A Story, B Story, and Subplot(s) with beginnings, middles, and ends.
I like the way you put that, Daniel Stuelpnagel. "the challenge is like wiring up a network server so it functions and also looks functional." Writing the A Story, B Story, and Subplots (and everything in a script) is like wiring because everything needs to connect. Change one thing, and you probably have to change other things.
Its great to see a well rounded b and c story. If these are well thought out and deliver on side character development, it can elevate your side characters from one-dimensional functionaries of the lead, to characters that add depth to the project as a whole.

A story: you wanna become pro screenwriter, red carpet walker, A list star, etc...
B story: day job, lousy pay & life...
That's it...

Great share Maurice! The B story line is just as important as the A story

What about a writer who's skilled at both, Kiril Maksimoski? A Story and B Story.

Maurice Vaughan yes I love subplots and parallel storylines and throughlines,
B story, even C, D and E story,
I have one script that has about a dozen subplots haha and the challenge is like wiring up a network server so it functions and also looks functional,
there are plenty of various approaches to this and I believe it is a valuable and genuine art form to develop robust and entertaining story material,
the more intricate the tapestry the more it engages an audience for the long term entertainment value.

You're right, Ewan Dunbar. The B Story and C Story can be where side characters shine. Thanks for sharing!
