Hey fellow scribes -
Here’s a logline exercise mixed in with fan fiction...
I’ve often thought of what a sequel to one of my all-time favorite movies would look like. So, if you could write a sequel to any movie, TV show, or even a classic script, what would it be—and what would your logline look like?
Here’s mine:
THE IRON GIANTSWhen pilot Captain Hogarth Hughes is faced with an army of giant robots from a war-like planet, the Iron Giant must choose between protecting the world he loves from his home planet or unleash the destruction he was made for.
*Disclaimer - this is a fun exercise in creating a logline for your favorite movie. Please know it's not an endorsement to write an actual script for a story that you've not been given permission to write by the IP owner. It's simply a fun exercise. Thanks!

Somebody make The Iron Giants! I like that logline, Leonardo Ramirez 2!
Here’s the logline for The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 (animated movie):
After Princess Peach and her royal guests get kidnapped by Wario and Waluigi, Mario and Luigi journey through a dangerous new land, trying to rescue them before news gets to the kingdoms and they declare war on the Mushroom Kingdom for letting the guests get taken.

I love that Maurice Vaughan. Sad to say I haven't seen the first one yet but it's on my list. This backlog is getting long! I know it did very well so no doubt your sequel would make the billion dollar club.

I've been wanting a sequel ever since the final scene of The Iron Giant. I've written about this subject before.

My own suggestion would be related to the Cars series. So far, Disney made three films about cars (land) and two about airplanes (air). At this point, I believe it's time for a film about watercraft. Also, I'm a Jules Verne fan.

That was a great breakdown Bedirhan Öztürk. As far as making a film about watercraft, that does sound fun. Love Jules Verne!

Here’s an expanded version of your summary for The Iron Giant:
The Iron Giant tells the story of a young pilot, Captain Hogarth Hughes, who discovers a massive, mysterious robot that has fallen from space. As Hogarth forms an unlikely friendship with this gentle giant, he realizes that the robot, built as a weapon on a distant, warlike planet, possesses unimaginable power—power that could either save the world or destroy it. When Hogarth learns that an entire army of giant robots from the Iron Giant’s home planet is headed to Earth, he faces an urgent dilemma: can the Iron Giant overcome the destructive purpose he was designed for and choose to protect the world he has come to love, rather than succumb to his programming and wreak havoc? As tensions escalate, Hogarth, the Iron Giant, and the townspeople are forced to confront themes of identity, choice, and the meaning of true heroism. Ultimately, the story is a poignant exploration of courage, friendship, and the idea that one’s destiny does not have to define them—showing that even the most fearsome creations are capable of love, compassion, and sacrifice.

Nice summary Ryan Monroe - this would be a sequel to the first Iron Giant. So Hogarth had already befriended the gentle giant.

I’d have to say my favorite movies are the Pirates of the Caribbean films. If we imagine a world where all the outside drama never happened, I think a sequel that brings back the spirit of the first trilogy could look something like this:
Logline:
When a new supernatural curse threatens to drag the seas into eternal darkness, Captain Jack Sparrow is forced back into the fray—teaming up with old allies and rivals alike on a perilous quest for a mythical relic said to control the tides of the world. But as betrayal and destiny collide, Jack must decide if he’ll finally rise as a true legend of the sea, or be swallowed by it once and for all.

Holy smokes Jennifer Ford - that sounds cool! I love the pirates movie myself and have often thought of writing one. I once did an ancestry trace some years ago and after talking to some family members who have passed on, was able to confirm that one ancestor was an actual pirate in the Caribbean.

Arthur Charpentier - you've hit on one of my fav characters of all time. Absolutely love the Batman universe and love that story idea especially in a film-noir setting. And terminator snakes? Wow! Both are pretty clever Arthur!

Leonardo Ramirez 2 Yes there were 4 movies, modest hits, but I think are prime sources of 1990s nostalgia. They were all PG or PG-13, so this new R-rated take could compare to Logan which was Wolverine's first non-PG-13 screen appearance and they hit that R hard.
