'THE BACKLOT' is a free film mixer for anyone interested in working in the motion picture & video production industry, be they amateur or pro. The gathering takes place every 3rd Monday of the month at The Heritage House Arts & Civic Center in the E. Brainerd area of Chattanooga (37421). Admission is free. Typical events at 'THE BACKLOT' include presentations by working professionals; casting calls for upcoming films, shorts and web series; and screenings of locally-produced films and works-in-progress. Our attendees & presenters consist of indie filmmakers, acting talent from both theatre and film/tv, and have included various trade professionals in areas such as videography/cinematography, acting, spfx makeup, art direction, sound recording, editing, and makeup (just to name a few!) BENT RECORD by Joseph Steven Heath / Minty Pineapple Productions (4’) Two friends discuss musicians and actors, and how success in one realm doesn’t necessarily guarantee success (or fan acceptance) in the other. DOUBLE INDEMNITY by Josh Davis (SAU)(7’) A homage to the 1944 Billy Wilder classic. THE THINGS THAT MATTER by David Blanchard (Bryan University)(10’) The story of a young artist who is torn between following his idea of success and investing time into his relationships. WAKING BRANDON by Austin Quarles & Ryan Gentle / Physically Awkward Productions (20’) follows the story of a young artist who is torn between following his idea of success- and investing time into his relationships. In 1984, "The Terminator" became one of the pop-culture touchstones of the decade, but it's hard to remember that when Arnold Schwarzenegger was first tapped to play that glowering cybernetic killer, the casting was a bit of knowing joke, one that spun off Arnold's borderline comic lunkishness as an actor. (It's not a compliment, exactly, to say that you were born to play a cyborg.)

Ben Affleck is a far better actor than Schwarzenegger, but nine years ago, when Affleck was cast as the title character of "The Accountant," the role carried some of that same frisson of meta japery. For Affleck, winning as he can be, has often had a blockish, overly square, slightly inexpressive quality. And it's that aspect of his persona that makes him perfect as Christian Wolff, an autistic savant who works as an accountant for mobsters and terrorists, using his surreal numbers acumen to clean up their fraudulent books. He is also, not so incidentally, a brutally efficient action bruiser.

You could say, in the broadest sense, that "The Accountant" was a "Jason Bourne" thriller with Rain Man at its center. But that wouldn't do justice to the submerged wit of Affleck's performance, and the even better one he gives in "The Accountant 2," which premiered tonight at SXSW. Speaking in a low flat monotone, with facial expressions that range from blank to blanker, he's a lot more plugged-in than Dustin Hoffman's character in "Rain Main," but Christian's personality is limited by the fact that the only way he knows how to communicate is by spouting objective information. That's what he thinks a conversation is. Within that way of being, he's a rather personable stoic brainiac, but it's that naggingly neutral quality - Affleck as emotional android ­- that shapes Christian's prowess as an action hero. He's empathy impaired; this allows him to inflict pain.

We are preparing to go into production on Shepard, a web series that chronicles the story of a fallen rock icon as he rebuilds his life. We have four roles now available: SANDI. Single mother, late thirties / early forties. Former “bad girl” struggling to make an honest life for herself and her teenage son, while dealing with frequent visits from Rick, an abusive, unpleasant ex. Sandi never expected kids, but is a fiercely protective mother. She still likes to drink and have fun, and Jason Shepard is just her kind of bad boy. TREVOR. Sandi’s son. 14-16 years old. Quiet, unassuming, invisible. His indifference hides a deep anger that grows ever closer to the surface. He would frequently fight with Rick, which is part of the reason Rick is now an ex. Trevor has not had a pleasant life, and is close to a breaking point. RICK. Sandi’s vindictive ex. He controls through subtlety, using words before throwing fists – though he doesn’t hesitate to do that if he feels it’s necessary. He hated Jason Shepard even before Sandi took an interest in him. He feels justified in his actions, and simply believes he is often misunderstood. STACY. Minor speaking (2-3 lines in one scene). A curvy bar patron who recognizes Jason Shepard. Potential to be a recurring character. ___ In addition to the above roles, we also need extras for a few bar scenes, as well as a crowd to serve as background for a few scenes in a church. Hi I've been a member since the early years of this site and am checking in to make new connections.

I am primarily an actress who plays All American go getter, old soul with deep emotional range types. The lover grieving a loss in Amitie, the burglar in All in a Day's Work (won A3F's Best Actress award), the kidnapper in Seeing Red, murder victim in The Gift, angry wife in Run for Your Life, etc. I would love to play more victim turned vigilante, detective and secret agent types. Those and complex romantic relationship types suit my style best. Amy Adams in Enchanted has a similar vibe to my life loving giddy joyful everyday self, while Jessica Chastain in Zero Dark Thirty or Miss Sloan demonstrates my deteremined and more self reliant essence.

Dance wise, I am strongly interested in working with V4 teams to create visually dramatic and contrasting games that stimulate the physical therapy possibilities. I love the dynamic of camera/viewer/player to dancer duet and would love to do the Art Direction and Choreocinematography. I have trained in a variety of techniques/styles/genres including hip hop, belly, contemporary/modern and many more, earning my A.A.S. in Motion Picture and Television Production in both the Acting/Directing and Dance Technology tracks with honors and High Distinction.

Vocally, I write lyrics and have a smooth, professional, friendly, fun and sensual sound great for a pop folk alternative fusion music and hip, urban and healthy lifestyle brands (V.O.) or adventurous storybooks. For those that may be new to the site, when I post commentary about creative works, they reflect my personal tastes only - never intend to rank my tastes vs others or assume that my preferences should be anyone else's...all that being said, I have to make a ringing endorsement for The Plague.

If you love movies like It Follows, Carrie, The Shining, Lord Of The Flies (all of which are faves of mine and high on all-time categories and have all been passed on such lists as of tonight by The Plague) then this movie is a must for you.

The writing, directing, and soundscape/score all meld into a unified vision that is so overwhelmingly effective as to be almost magical. It has been rare for me to find a new release in theaters to have the type of impact this movie has had and for me (again I am not ranking my tastes vs others) this is they type of movie experience I was hoping to have with Weapons and The Sinner. The social commentary was searing but incredibly provocative and as usual Joel Edgerton finds the most interesting projects to be involved with. I am guessing it will not generate the same type of discussion that the Netflix hit Adolescence did, but the quality of the writing and the full message presented deserves to be discussed with the same level of respect.

Whoever made the casting decisions....PLEASE be involved in my Dixie Dynamite project hahaha....I have never seen any of the child actors in another work and each of them were superb to spectacular and brought such incredible presence to their roles.

The plot was well conceived, the dialogue and action all 100% believable and authentic and the homage the project provides to Full Metal Jacket is so pleasing to me as well. The final scene, again for me, is so much more effective than Weapons was and provides very effective insight and commentary in a way that I do not feel Weapons did.

One of the best movies I have seen at the theater in years and I can't wait to go see it again! GO SEE THIS MOVIE!
