Thanks to the sage advice of some S32 regulars, I finally picked up a copy of David Trottier's Screenwriters Bible. Wow! What a great book for screenwriters! I can see why this is considered the definitive reference by so many pros. He opens with such a strong but simple analysis of the vital differences between writing for screen, stage, and the novel form. It really opened my eyes! And that was on the first page! He uses such great examples to justify each of his arguments! This is THE essential text for beginners and experts alike, and I am repeating this oft-heard message for anyone out there looking for a good text to guide them in their work.

I consider it a must have. If you're only going to buy one book on screenwriting then this is the one.
