Introduce Yourself : Screenwriter from Brazil by Rafael Peixoto

Screenwriter from Brazil

Hi, everyone. I'm a screenwriter and director from Brazil, migrating from advertising to movies and TV. I have three original series sold to prodcos (but still waiting for network green light to go under production) and I've been hired to write four movies, one of them already under preproduction. I also have an advertising and live marketing agency. We are starting a new branch in our company: to produce horror movies focusing on the international market, but with a Latin flavor, and using the huge difference between US Dollars and Brazilian Reais currency to shoot here, where the cost of a movie production is much more competitive, using a mixed crew (Brazilian and International). Our first movie in this model is under development and it's called Keep The Blood Away From The Cabin. We expect to release it in 2020, if fundraising goes as we expect. I'm here looking for prolific partnerships with prodcos, distributors, directors, screenwriters, actors, and actresses that speak English as the first language and would be willing to shoot in Brazil if the opportunity presents itself, as well as other creative professionals, such as Sound Designers, Production Designers, etc. I'm also here to learn from you and improve my skills.

That's some major success right there, Rafael! Congratulations. Would love to learn more about your road from beginner to sales to gun for hire!

It's a work in progress, really. In Brazil, things are a little bit easier. And I had access to prodcos because here all of them also produce advertising, so I had the right channels and just had to push so they gave me a chance to show my scripts. We don't have agents for screenwriters in Brazil (they are very, very rare and usually don't do anything, I had two and none of them gave me a penny), so we have to be our own representation. I spend half of my time networking, attending premieres, lectures, events and so on. I assume it's not that different in the US. :) Being an advertiser helped A LOT.
