Last week I took advantage of the Cyber week discounts and sent my 60-minute TV pilot script to 5 executives. Last night I had the most amazing inspiring call with a rep - who said I inspired him on the call. He said he was blown away by my courage, strength, and competence. He also stated this story was unlike anything he has ever read. And he told me if I keep writing with so much passion I will be the most sought-after writer/producer in the industry.
I tell you this not to boast but to encourage you so you know writing is not just writing, it is spilling your soul out on paper. The readers of your script must feel emotions and know your passion, if they do not feel anything they will not buy your writing. I know I sold myself on the call with the rep last night by his amazing words of encouragement. When someone tells you, you are a hero who needs a cap - this was empowering.
What is your brand? Who are you not just as a writer but as a person? What connection do you have to the story? My connection to the stories I write always has people crying when I tell it! You must connect deeply with your story and tell the stories the world needs to hear not the ones you think will get you into a writer's room. Which by the way is not even my goal! I pitch my scripts to help get them produced not to sell them! And yes this can be done with anyone if only you believe in yourself and know who you are deep down inside!
There is no competition except the ones you create yourself, there are no gatekeepers except the ones you create yourself. Stop being led by the fear you have inside and start being led by what you want the world to see and know about you! Go out, verbally pitch your script and never be afraid to connect with others!

I totally agree. My best scripts are the ones I let my soul loose to the public. I had a story in my mind for 35 years. Knew it well but never committed it to paper. I had a chance to write it during a competition to write a script in 6 days. Completed it in two, probably because I had the 35 years to think about it. I was so emotional while writing my wife would check in on me often during the process. Winner got a table read with actors. It won the contest and the read was acknowledgement of my creation. So beautiful to hear your soul read back to you through others.
