Happy International Women's Day!

What a gorgeous gorgeous reason to celebrate :)

Who are your favorite heroines in the industry? Whether screenwriters, actors, directors, producers, or all of the above.

Let's hear it!

Craig D Griffiths

Emma Thompson & Kathryn Bigelow

Both are smarter and more talented than me.

Maurice Vaughan

Some of my favorites are Dakota Fanning, Kathryn Bigelow, Linda Hamilton, Regina King, Emily Blunt, Melina Matsoukas, and Sigourney Weaver.

Being the son of a single mum, having a wife in law enforcement (so tough she could rust) and a daughter which never ceases to amaze me. I do appreciate these days as a time to celebrate part of our community.

I also lament that we need it.

Karen "Kay" Ross

OMG, LINDA -EFFING- HAMILTON! Thank you for the reminder, Maurice Vaughan !She was my silver screen goddess growing up! Seeing her do pull-ups on her over-turned bedframe secured her in my memory as such, forever and always. Her and Angela Bassett. I just loved seeing women who showed physical strength was not a sign of "butchness", and similarly love to see depth to lesbian characters who are more than just "lipstick" or "butch". Orange Is the New Black was such a great example of this. Hell, Lena Waithe in Master of None is a great example of this.

Annelies Morlion

Meryl Streep and Emma Thompson, Ava DuVernay and Nina Menkes (Her documentary Brainwashed: Camera-Sex-Power on the gendered language of film blew my mind https://www.berlinale.de/en/programme/programme/detail.html?film_id=2022...)

You're welcome, Karen "Kay" Ross. I think the all-time top action heroine is Linda Hamilton or Sigourney Weaver. Milla Jovovich and Scarlett Johansson are also up there as top action heroines.
