Zulaikhah, hi, I'm in the same position here in England. It's incredibly difficult it seems and perhaps the hardest market for a newbie to crack. Commissioning editors and production companies run schemes where they accept and read unsolicited stuff, not attached to a production house but Reality TV simply doesn't! very weird considering the rewards, if someone gets it right! Do NOT tell anyone your idea without an NDA in place for starters. Good luck
In my opinion that is not great advice - you're not going to get major production companies / broadcasters to view your pitch if you ask them to sign an NDA.
I agree with Simon Foster. Creators need to be smart, which means doing due diligence on prospective partners. But you can’t hide your candle under a bush. A respected producer is not going to sign an inexperienced creator’s NDA, and insisting on it is likely to end any further discussion. Also, an idea alone is really worthless. Anyone can have it and probably has. It’s what you do with the idea that matters.
I have pitched one idea I have to Discovery + and Paramount live and about to pitch Ch4 (written) . You have to have a pitch deck ready and a teaser helps. The main question they ask is who is your presenter? Obviously famous ones are easier to sell or pair a famous one with someone you want to break in. Then they want a breakdown of what will happen on the 2 halves or 4 quarters of the show. Visiting MIPcom or AFM there will be many coproducers or broadcasters you can get a slot to pitch to.

No NDA either it’s very rude.
Hope the Ch4 pitch goes great, Jane.
