Producing : Nda by Lee Rider

Nda

Morning, complete novice here but I have a well respected tv producer asking to look at my reality tv idea. They have asked me to send an NDA before the pitch. Is there a standard one I can adapt from the internet? All help and advice gratefully received!

Simon Foster

Sounds odd that they are asking you to send them an NDA for your pitch.

Simon Foster

Ah - I see your post below.

Lindbergh Hollingsworth

This is a$$-backwards. They, the production company, provide you with a submission agreement allowing them to read, review your material.

Shellie Schmals

Congrats on getting to the decision maker!

E Langley

As noted, this is a reversal. Any "well respected" producer, production company or studio will request you sign their NDA because they have good lawyers. They do not want to sign your NDA and will likely refuse.

Don't bother with the time and effort to send them one. Seen asks like this before. Unfortunately, it's likely a ploy to get rid of you.

Dane Johnson

I agree with E Langley. I see no reason for a producer to want to protect the interests of a "complete novice" in the unscripted TV industry. Producers have so many ideas from creators who already have track records that it is standard to refuse unsolicited material outright, much less help the creator protect it.

Dane Johnson

Also, since this is an industry where you definitely need to protect yourself from schemers and dreamers, it might help others if you described how this producer came to ask to look at your reality TV concept. Where did he or she see it? Do they already know you? What have they done to make them “well respected”?

E Langley

A writer friend was bitching about having a lengthy, positive Zoom and Linkedin request six months ago who was ghosted. There was even an article about the reasons for the "Hollywood No" - lack of response.

On the other hand, there's, "It takes people months to tie their shoes in Hollywood."

Not much to do except keep plugging away.

Lee Rider

I won’t bore you with the details but it’s all sorted and has been signed, pitching next week, pray for a miracle

E Langley

Fantastic. Good luck.

Eon C. Rambally

Great topic! Wise to ask.

Wendy Appelbaum

Good luck I hope it works out!

Rosemond Perdue

Lee Rider keep us posted, glad it turned out well.

Sam Sokolow

Lee Rider

Quick update, there’s interest and we are inching forward. Such an alien world but learning quickly!

Maurice Vaughan

That's great, Lee! Congratulations on the interest and moving forward!

Shellie Schmals

Hi Lee Rider - fantastic news!!! What's the most pressing thing you've had to learn quickly?

Eon C. Rambally

Great Informative! Glad to hear the progress Lee!

Lee Rider

Shellie, I’ve learnt that I’m a minuscule fish in a foreign pond, with absolutely no power or influence. Patience is key! If this goes anywhere, I’ll certainly be writing up my thoughts and experiences!

Shellie Schmals

Hi Lee Rider - it's good to stay humble and optimistic!! :) Excited to hear what's next.

Ilanna Mandel
