Introduce Yourself : Playwright, Screenwriter and Filmmaker by Carla Alleyne

Carla Alleyne

Playwright, Screenwriter and Filmmaker

Hello, Creative Beings... I am kinda new to Stage 32 - just learning what a gem and vital resource it is for screenwriters. I am an NYU grad in Dramatic Writing BFA And MFA - and have had scripts optioned by such companies as Miramax and HBO. I am a Caribbean - Brooklynite (born in Trinidad and Tobago). I have worked for the past years as a teacher in the NYC classroom, pouring into this next generation. I am transitioning now to full-time work as a creative: playwright, screenwriter, and director. You can check out some of my work here:

I am sincerely grateful to be part of this amazing community of industry professionals. Keep making magic, everyone!

Maureen Mahon

Welcome, Carla! Impressive track record so far.

Carla Alleyne

Emily J Thanks for the response. I am currently doing rewrites on a pilot with

hopes to get representation.

Carla Alleyne

Maureen Mahon Thanks! Appreciate the positive feedback!

Hi Carla Alleyne , it's great to meet you! Be sure to check out the different lounges and increase your creative community. It's great you've been a teacher; an inspiring profession and you know how to communicate with all types of people!

Carla Alleyne

Thanks Niki H I definitely will check out the lounges. Teaching in the inner city can make or break you... but it's the small victories that makes it worth it!

Geoff Hall

Carla Alleyne Hi there Carla! How are you doing? How is that brave transition coming along? Thanks for being a part of the IYW and I hope you make many new friends, who can help you with the transition. Best Wishes, Geoff

Carla Alleyne

Geoff Hall Thanks so much Geoff... so far all is well. I have some scripts that I have been working on over the years - and I am receiving positive feedback. The world is a different place since I started writing years ago - and finally, I sense that there is a place - an opening for diversity - voices like mine.

John Beach

Keep writing! You're on the right path and killing it. Use this time, during the strikes to write that passion project!

Hi Sam Sokolow! New York is in the house! Thanks so much for the information. I am definitely looking forward to taking some of the Stage 32 classes and webinars. I was actually planning to sign up for the webinar on options/legal negotiations - I believe it is taught by an entertainment lawyer. I am currently working series set in Baltimore that addresses the fentanyl epidemic. I am really excited about digging deeper into all that Stage 32 has to offer to help me with rewrites etc...

Carla Alleyne

Nice to meet you too, William Boodell! Thank you!

Carla Alleyne

Nick Waters Thanks, Nick. Just watched the trailer for Margaux... Incredible work!

Maurice Vaughan

Nice to meet you, Carla Alleyne. Congratulations on the options!!! There's a musical called "Brooklynite," but I think "The Brooklynite" would be a great title for a movie.

Carla Alleyne

Maurice Vaughan Thanks Maurice... now I have to look for this musical. Cool name. For sure! nice to meet you too!

Carla Alleyne

Maurice Vaughan Thank you! Looks cool!

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Carla Alleyne.

Geoff Hall

Carla Alleyne indeed, Carla. “Voices like mine”, resonates with me. We all wonder if we will fit, or have a place at the table. I’m glad you are seeing that now.
