I'm working on a screenplay about the life and death and its aftermath of Brandon Lee the son of Bruce lee. This story needs to be told especially after what happened on Alec Baldwins movie what happened to Brandon and that lady should never happen again. I would love advice and suggestions.

First, you could call "that lady" by her name, which was Halyna Hutchins. She won several awards over her career for her cinematography. Here's her wiki article. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halyna_Hutchins

Hi, Denise Jenner. What type of advice and suggestions are you looking for?

Sorry for seeming like I was disrespectful to halyma hutching. I just couldn't remember her name but thank you for pointing that out to me. I want to make this happen because it's an important topic. Any help would be appreciated thank you.
Is this the first script you've written, Denise Jenner?
Denise Jenner Can you clarify what exactly are you looking for?

I have an logline already but I need help with developing the characters and I need help with the overview of my screenplay plus visual imagez.

Denise Jenner - your next step would be an outline. Take the logline and write a synopsis while giving your characters names/traits. Make a list of those characters with a short description of what each is like - 3-4 words will do, something like "X is the type of person who would betray you". You don't need visual images yet. That's for way later. I would also suggest a webinar on how to write a screenplay. Stage 32 has a few that you can choose from here: https://www.stage32.com/education/collections/screenwriting.

It looks like you have the outline taken care of, Denise Jenner. Here's a webinar that could help you with developing the characters: www.stage32.com/education/products/the-shortcut-to-creating-unique-and-a...

Looks like your comment posted 3 times Denise Jenner. You're off to a good start. But the reason why Maurice, Matthew and I are pointing you towards your next step is that it is typically up to the person who is inspired to write a story to go ahead and write it. All of us were beginners at one point and we never stop learning. But if you were inspired to write this story then you should be the person to write it. If there is an aspect of the screenplay that you're uncertain as to how to go about writing it, learn as much as you can about that aspect and tackle it head on. No one can tell a story better than the person who was inspired to write it. We all have our screenplays that we're focused on so it's not a matter of folks not wanting to help you. The point that I'm trying to drive home is that each of us searched for the answers either through books, webinar, online research, whatever to be able to learn the craft. You did a great job in outlining and citing your research. That tells me that you can do this. .

I hate to be a "Debbie Downer" but.... Do you have permissions from the Lee estate to write this movie?
Any relatives of Bruce/Brandon could possibly sue you if you write the script without their permission. Its the same a when writing a screenplay based on a book. Without signed permission from the author, they can sue you. Plus, if there are multiple relatives who disagree or only have a percentage of control over the estate, you could still end up in a law suit where one relative gave you permission, but another decided to sue.
Besides all that, any producer worth their salt wouldn't touch it with a 10-ft pole if you didn't have a signed legal document from the estate for rights to the story.

Sounds cool! The first thing I'd say is do you have the permissions/rights to this story? If not that's step 1! If you do congrats! I'd say figure out what your theme is/find the theme in his life story. Once you have that the characters, dialogue, and story structure all flow out of that! Happy Writing

Denise Jenner you are on it. I can not disagree with any of the statements above but from your outline I see it as a multi-episode documentary of real lives. Story can have more than one Protagonist but, the Protagonist needs one Antagonist. Who is your antagonist?

I'm not sure who my antagonist is.

Interesting Mike Childress. And it sounds like you're a fellow martial artist. And what you're referring to sounds familiar. I remember hearing about it as well. I just never delved into it.

That's awesome Mike Childress. I LOVE Muay Thai. My study is centered in American Karate which encompases JKD, MT, some Shaolin (not enough though) and a few others. I love Shaolin because as I get older it's something I can still do as well as Kenjutsu (katana). I had to retire from teaching a few short years ago because of some bad injuries but I still enjoy meeting others in the study. I did a study over a summer of Krav Maga and loved that too.
