Hi everyone!
I’m a screenwriter with a love of world mythology and folklore, finding commonalities across cultures, and telling stories with humor and heart. My focus is on sci-fi, magical realism, and fantasy. I have a Caribbean background and outside of screenwriting have worked in global development and, most recently, tech. Through storytelling, I hope to help us rethink our social constructs and barriers to understanding.
It’s been about 4 months since I joined this amazing platform to learn, connect, and grow my screenwriting career. I’d love to meet more fellow screenwriters to hone our craft together, as well as managers, producers, and other creatives open to potential collaboration and exploration of each other’s work.
Thanks for reading. :) Have a wonderful weekend!
Ps - anyone going to State of the Story NYC on Oct 5th? https://storytelling360.com/event-info
Please message me - I’d love to see you there!

Avril David, nice to meet you...virtually speaking. I am an American originally from Virginia. Been living in Europe the last 17 years. I see you mention a Caribbean background. I have developed an animated series where one of the main character has Jamaican roots. As for World War Two, I have been reading about it since childhood. I live in Germany and have visited and lived in other countries impacted by the war. Seven years in Lithuania, one year in Poland, half a year in Soviet Russia, visited Hungary, the UK and other nations. I would enjoy hearing about the documentary regarding Austria and your other work. Best wishes from across the pond.

Wyman Brent thanks so much for your interest! My family are from Trinidad and Antigua with a large contingent now in the UK. I got involved in the documentary through a former colleague from the World Bank. It was an incredible experience- I had the opportunity to meet Franz Jagerstatter’s daughter in Austria at the home where Franz lived before his execution for refusing to fight in the war. Amazing story, amazing man. Best wishes to you too. I’d love to learn more about your animated series!

Avril David, you are welcome. I was in England many times. Herr Jagerstatter was clearly an incredible person. I have not yet visited Austria even though I live in Germany. I am the founder of the Vilnius Jewish Public Library in Lithuania. I am not Jewish. The library will be 14 years old this year. As for my animated series, It is titled What the Mack? The main character is named Lenny Macklin. He is a former one-hit wonder who now lives a not so quiet life in the town of HIlford which he refers to as Mackopolis. I am currently in talks with an animation studio about getting the show produced. I have written all the songs for the series. I have written around 400 songs total with most having no connection to the show. I would enjoy hearing more about your work.

Thank you for asking @Lauren Hackney!
My interest in mythology and folklore started with my family - Caribbean folklore was simply part of daily life in my household growing up. My interest deepened through my classmates, many of whom had Irish, English and German American backgrounds - I loved learning about the differences and surprising similarities, which led me to Joseph Campbell. It’s a never ending fascination for me. Do you have an interest as well? Australia has such rich mythology!
