Working on a platform to help indie filmmakers find crew globally, especially for post-production work.
The idea: You shouldn't be limited to editors/sound designers/colorists in your city. If someone great is in Berlin or Toronto or wherever, you should be able to work with them.

I suggest using a photo of yourself as your profile picture. People will feel more comfortable networking and collaborating with you if they know what you look like. You can upload a picture by clicking the gear symbol in the top right-hand corner and selecting “Edit profile” in the drop-down menu, then clicking the red button underneath your location and choosing "Update profile picture."

Quick follow-up question for you and anyone else in the community:
When you're working on a film project and need to find crew (editors, sound designers, colorists, etc.), what's your current process?
Do you use Facebook groups, word of mouth, Stage 32's crew calls, or something else?
I'm trying to understand the real workflow before I build more features. Appreciate any insights!

You're welcome, Shaik Abdul Thouhid. I'm not a filmmaker, but Stage 32 has a Job Board that filmmakers can use to hire crews (www.stage32.com/find-jobs). And Stage 32 has a Browse Members section (www.stage32.com/people).

Shaik Abdul Thouhid This does look like a great idea ! Honestly, I also struggle with getting the right talent locally especially for post production. One thing I still struggle with is credibility for remote talent and also contracts, deadlines and quality of deliverables. So if you can include a structured process for addressing these pain points, it can turn out to be a really valuable platform.

Shaik Abdul Thouhid It depends where you are. In L.A., it's not an issue. However, for very specialized things like animation and vfx, producers have often gone outside of local area. But we go to places that have depth of experience - for example, Canada and Korea have developed expertise in animation. Consider too who you are selling these services to. Any production house more than a couple people large doesn't need to go outside. Those who are smaller likely can't afford much - and what is the work flow? Where is footage transferred? I am assuming you are wanting to do more than just a contact website.

Swati Chugh , thanks for your feedback. I get that frustration, and it's quite a challenging one that you can find not just for media/film industry, it's everywhere. The most stringent way to go about is for people to willingly gain reputation by working/contributing on smaller projects/works and gain some credibility. This was a part of my original plan. But again, thanks for your valuable feedback.

Shadow Dragu-Mihai, Esq., Ipg thank you for your response. I get where you are coming from. I wanted to target some individual contributors who are looking for people who can contribute to the part of the work which they are unable to do. Need not be some high budget films, for which you should obviously approach the teams who are specialist in this. There are a set of individuals who just love to create, so this was mostly for those individuals. Creating a platform for such a scale where big creative organizations pool in requires extensive research and community support. And yes, the web application was mainly for creating your portfolio, collaborating with people who have similar goals with you, with or without funding. And if you find any problems with my idea, please point it out, I am open to any criticism/feedback.

I think this sounds good in theory. The catch is that even though most people here are likely interested in such collaboration, post-production takes a lot of time and effort, and we all have to pay our bills. I have seen many people asking for things like a zero-budget 10s animated CG sequence of Hollywood quality, without realizing the immense amount of work that goes into it.

While others think this is a great idea, from a purely personal perspective, I have worked on a project that involved dealing remotely with animators and despite using Zoom etc., I found it wholly frustrating. Being in the room discussing the nuances of animation, or VFX or grading just makes you feel closer to the person working on it and closer to the work. Plus, if the artist is abroad, the time difference is certainly a barrier.
So personally I wouldn't take advantage of it. As to where to find people, if it's VFX for example, look at who did the work on films you like, or Google VFX companies in your local film hub, or look at the awards, not necessarily Oscars, or in the UK we have a directory called The Knowledge which lists companies in all categories, there may be something similar in other centres.

Patrik Gyltefors Thanks for your input. Yes, In theory it sounds and looks good, and this was the reason I reached out to people to understand the flaws, frictions, and idealism in my assumptions/hypothesis. So, your feedback would definitely help in pointing out the holes in my assumptions.

God'sgift Irabor Hey, thanks for your kind gesture. Not a big vision, that is a pipe dream at this point. Just wanted to see if I could make or bring out a platform where collaboration with least friction is possible. Whether my experiment works or not depends on the feedback I receive.
I would definitely love to connect and have a meaningful conversation.

Geoff Harris Thanks for your feedback. I am definitely open to ideas which question my assumptions. I understand there are quite a lot of problems when it comes to working with people and working remote upon that. Would love to hear your experiences and how you tackled those pain points, if you are okay with it.

Geoff Harris has a good point. The only credits that really count are credits on blockbuster movies, and work experience at major VFX houses. ILM offers internships, and people are happy to work for free at ILM for the credits alone. But an unknown short film is not going to attract volunteer work.
