Hello, all. After more than three decades as a professional researcher, television consultant and traditionally published non-fiction author, I decided it was time to pursue a new passion: art.
While I will always be a writer (Authors Guild member since 2012) I am loving being an oil pastel artist and printmaker. In fact, I just returned from my 7th cross-country trip and I'm creating a series of prints based on my favorite California sights. The Joshua Trees, the Golden Hills, and the iconic Highway 101 are three of my six works in progress.
I love waking up in the morning, having coffee with my husband (a former long-time radio personality), talking to my dog and cat as if they're human, and sitting in my little studio space, sipping a cup of tea. Until we "meet" again, as I always say: "Be well, be happy and be kind (especially to yourself.)
P.S. If anyone knows how I can edit those little black tags in my profile, I'd love to hear the secret!

Thank you Richard and Maurice so much! I did open that window but just didn't scroll far enough down to get to the place I needed to be. Have a lovely rest of your weekend.

Thank you, Amanda! I have a couple of passions. One is travel, so that inspires a lot of art. I love the human face, so portraits are ALWAYS a favorite subject. And, because I was primarily a historical non-fiction author who wrote a great deal about the "Spiritualists" of the Victorian era, I really love anything on the spooky, witchy, mystical (even Steampunk) side of the spectrum. It really depends on whether I feel like using oil pastels or creating a linocut print that dictates the work on any given day. And what a wonderful question - much appreciated.

Hi Stephanie Hoover, happy Introduce Yourself Weekend! I’m Ashley, Head of Community here at Stage 32, and it’s so wonderful to meet you.
Your post radiates peace and purpose. That image of starting your day with coffee, pets who absolutely are human in their own way, and a quiet studio full of color is such a beautiful contrast to the nonstop pace of a decades-long research and consulting career. It’s inspiring to see someone embrace a new creative chapter with so much intention.
Your California series sounds gorgeous, those Joshua Trees and Gold Country hills have a way of getting under your skin and staying there. We have a totally free Community Open House webcast you’re invited to. It’s a great way to meet people, ask questions, and learn how to navigate Stage 32 like a pro:

Looking forward to seeing more of your work and getting to know you as you dive into this art-forward chapter.

Thank you so, so much Leonardo, Ashley and Marie. I can't tell you how it soothes my soul to receive such positive feedback and encouragement. This is definitely not your grandfather's social media, to paraphrase the old car ad. My very best wishes to everyone who has taken the time to like or comment. Just wonderful!
