Hello Stage 32 — Director/Producer starting my next Project

Hi everyone, I’m Crystal J. Huang, a director and producer working between the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles.

My recent work includes directing and producing the feature films The Ritual House (2025) and Dark Feathers: Dance of the Geisha (2024), as well as co-directing The Tardins, which is currently in post-production. I’m excited to share that I am now developing Dark Feathers: Desert Sea, the next feature in the Dark Feathers trilogy.

Dark Feathers: Desert Sea is a high-concept, female-driven science-fiction feature designed around a hybrid production model. The film will combine traditional live-action production—including dialogue scenes and close-ups—with AI-enhanced worldbuilding and selected visual sequences.

At its heart, the story explores an intimate mother-daughter relationship within a dangerous world shaped by powerful autonomous intelligence, nuclear threats, and the growing tension between human intuition and machine logic.

I joined Stage 32 to connect with producers, science advisors, visual artists, AI filmmakers, distribution professionals, and other collaborators interested in developing an ambitious independent science-fiction feature through hybrid filmmaking.

I look forward to meeting, learning from, and collaborating with members of this creative community.

Crystal J. Huang Welcome to Stage 32, Crystal.

What caught my attention most was the mother daughter relationship at the center of the story. In my experience, science fiction tends to be most powerful when the technology and worldbuilding support a deeply human emotional journey, and it sounds like that's what you're aiming for here.

I'm also intrigued by the tension between human intuition and machine logic. That's a theme that feels increasingly relevant as AI becomes more integrated into our daily lives.

Wishing you the best with Dark Feathers: Desert Sea. I'm interested to see how the trilogy continues to evolve and how the hybrid filmmaking approach serves the story.

Crystal J. Huang

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome and kind words. I really appreciate the support and am excited to connect with other filmmakers and creatives here on Stage 32. Looking forward to learning more about your work as well!

Thank you, Shadow. Nice to meet you here. I'd be happy to connect.

Crystal J. Huang

Abhijeet Aade Thank you, Abhijeet. I really appreciate your thoughtful comment. Yes, the mother-daughter relationship is very much at the heart of Dark Feathers: Desert Sea, and I’m interested in exploring how AI and technology can heighten, rather than replace, the human emotional journey. I’m glad that theme resonated with you.

Crystal J. Huang

Paula Wilson Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. Dance is such an important part of Dark Feathers: Dance of the Geisha, both visually and emotionally.

I’m excited to continue expanding the Dark Feathers world with Dark Feathers: Desert Sea, and I look forward to sharing more as the project develops!

Crystal J. Huang

Chris Ducey Creatively, I’m interested in using AI to help expand the world visually, especially for concept design and certain stylized environments, while keeping the heart of the film grounded in live-action performances and human emotion.

Abhijeet Aade

Crystal J. Huang Thank you so much! I'm really glad that came across. I think that's what makes stories memorable technology and spectacle may capture our attention, but it's the relationships between the characters that give those elements lasting meaning. The mother-daughter dynamic sounds like a strong emotional anchor for what appears to be a very ambitious sci-fi world. I look forward to following the journey of Dark Feathers: Desert Sea. Wishing you continued success with the project!
